Describe A Time When Someone Asked For Your Opinion Cue Card

Topic: Describe A Time When Someone Asked For Your Opinion Cue Card

You should say:

  • Who asked for your opinion?
  • Why did he/she want to know your opinion?
  • What opinion did you give?
  • And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion.

Answer 1:

Who asked for your opinion?

A memory stands out to me of somebody who really wanted to get my two cents about a big fork in the road. My close friend was faced with a decision: to get a master’s degree immediately after college, or to take a job offer she had just received.

Why did he/she want to know your opinion?

She asked this question because she knew I had done my homework on the higher education system and the job market. We talk a lot about where we’re going and where we’re headed. I think she respects my judgment. She was stressed.

What opinion did you give?

Thus, I listened intently for what mattered most to her, and then I opened up. My suggestion was to start from what she wanted long-term. If what she desired involved was based on higher-level attainments, then the master’s could potentially be more advantageous. Alternatively, if having some practical experience and/or financial stability would enhance her, then starting from the employment option could work for her too. One method is listing what, once again, could provide her happiness.

And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion.

Her asking my opinion made me feel important and appreciated. It emphasized how she trusts my opinions and maturity levels. There’s also a sense of responsibility that comes with it, like, that I shouldn’t misguide her. And while it all mattered, ultimately it made our friendship better and gave me a confidence boost.

Answer 2:

Who asked for your opinion?

Another moment I will never forget was in a work group project, where we were discussing a new strategy the team was planning to implement, and in the middle of the discussion, the team lead turned around and asked what I had to say.

Why did he/she want to know your opinion?

She sought my opinion because I’d been knee-deep in the figures, week after week—studying the reports, examining the trends, extracting the insights. And as I had a handle on the figures as well as the possible risks involved, she thought my input would be useful in the meeting. I felt like I had butterflies as everyone’s gaze fell upon me.

What opinion did you give?

I told them the truth. The strategy, I told them, has genuine spark and potential, but also genuine challenges in terms of execution. So, instead of broadly rolling it out to every client, I suggested that we test it first on a smaller client base. This would allow us to assess it better before finally rolling it out on a larger scale. I explained to them this line of thinking based on concrete examples.

And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion.

She asking me for my opinion also made me feel appreciated. It was as if she was implying that my hard work was not going unnoticed. It also, however, created a feeling of responsibility for me, not wanting to give sloppy advice. Following this encounter, I felt more confident and driven after the meeting. It was one moment where I felt more confident and convinced about myself, prompting me to take part more in such conversations.

Answer 3:

Who asked for your opinion?

There is a particular instance that comes to mind, as my parents were planning to renovate the house. This is a major family decision, and one night, they called a family meeting with me. There were concerns, they said, regarding ideas on how they could design my room, as well as ideas on how they could make the house as a whole look.

Why did he/she want to know your opinion?

They also asked for my opinion because I’m home a lot and in my room most of the time, studying and unwinding. They wanted my comfort to be first on their list. They also believed that I had a practical side and an acceptable sense of interior design, which made me feel quite proud of myself. This was the first time they got me involved in something important in the way they did.

What opinion did you give?

To make the house feel more airy and bright, I suggested. I told them that if they painted the walls in lighter colors, they would be able to achieve an airy and bright ambiance. For my room, I asked for a study nook near the window so that I would be able to study under natural lighting. Additional shelves and storage cabinets were also what I suggested.

And explain how you felt when he/she asked for your opinion.

“When they actually listened, taking notes and nodding along, it made me feel like they saw me and valued me, that my ideas were important.” It gave me a sense of responsibility to come up with practical suggestions, as well. It brought my family closer together and made me feel more mature.
