Model Answer 1

Family is a very close-knit group and it's extremely common for family members to help each other out. Whenever we face a problem in life, family is the first resort that we seek.
I live in a joint family so there are a lot of people in my family, and we all help each other out when the opportunity presents itself. We live in a small town and it's fun living with so many whom I can call family.

When it was?
My cousin and I went to the same school. Our school held an open house every year where prospective students could come and take a tour of the school in case they wish to join when a new session begins. The theme of this year’s open house was an art exhibition, and our proceeds were to go to charity. My cousin had taken up a huge origami project for the exhibition, but her partner fell ill and didn’t recover until it was too late to make submissions.

Who asked you for help?
My cousin asked for my help with her origami so that she can make a submission which was due the very next day.

How you helped?
My cousin and I collected all the supplies and started folding paper to make origami, but the project was huge and the two of us couldn’t do it on time. So, I called all our younger cousins and told them that today we are going to teach them how to do origami. The activity looked so fun that my parents, all my uncles and aunts joined in. That’s how our family as a team finished the origami project and we had fun as well.

How you felt about it?
To begin with, I was more nervous than my cousin thinking that what if we failed and she couldn’t make her submissions on time. But as I thought of involving other family members, it turned into a fun activity. I was glad that I was part of a joint family where we look out for each other.

Model Answer 2

Asking for help from family members is very common due to the love and affection that pervades within a family. Family is like a safety blanket of a person that provides us with warm reassurance.
I live in a nuclear family with my father, mother and two younger siblings. We live in a village and my father works in the fields of others while my mother runs our small animal husbandry that produces milk and eggs.

When it was?
It was when I had started high school. Because there was no high school in my village, I used to go to the next village for studying and it was very far away from my home. So, my father gave me his bicycle because we couldn’t afford two. My father started commuting to his field work on foot.

Who asked you for help?
My father asked for my help. One day, when I came home from school, I saw my frantically looking for something near our house. I asked him if he had lost something, and he told me that he had lost his wallet and this time it had a lot of money because today he had gotten paid.

How you helped?
I decided to help him look for it, but we couldn’t find it anywhere. So, I asked him if he hadn’t dropped it elsewhere. He said that the field that he was working on is far away, if he has dropped it there it's as good as gone. I sat him on my bicycle and rode towards his last workplace so that he could find his wallet on the way before someone took it. When we reached the field, a fellow worker was sitting there with my father’s wallet and he returned it back to him while chiding my father for his carelessness.

How you felt about it?
I am really happy about being able to help my father because it's my father who always helped us out especially when we needed something. My help was insignificant compared to how hard he works for all of us but in that moment, I felt really proud that I could be of help to my father.

Model Answer 3

In difficult times, family is one societal institution that one can count on. During crises family members are the first ones to come forward and extend a helping hand. Family makes a person feel safe.
I live in a small family with my parents, my older brother, and my grandmother. We live a city apartment and lead a rather quiet life as both of my parents work outside of home.

When it was?
It was when I was in sixth grade and my grandmother started feeling a bit under the weather. At that time there was no one at home because both of my parents had jobs outside of home and my brother had gone back to his university hostel. My grandmother and I were alone in the home because I was skipping school that day.

Who asked you for help?
My grandmother asked me for help as she was feeling sick and needed help to feel better and to run the house in the meantime. She asked me if I could help her so that she can make some gruel so that she can take her over the counter fever medicines. She also asked me if I could keep an eye on the door so when the house help arrives, I must let her in so that she can tidy the house.

How you helped?
I decided to help my grandmother by making the gruel alone while she took her much needed rest. I assured her that I will follow her instructions to the letter and will not burn myself. After much begging and pleading she let me do it and after I masterfully made it for her. She was impressed and left me in charge of the house for the rest of the day. Needless to say, I was on my best behaviour that day so that my grandmother doesn’t feel uncomfortable or overexert herself. Because it was light fever she was all well in the evening.

How you felt about it?
I felt very proud of myself and happy that I could lessen the burden of my grandmother even if it was for one day. That day gave me an opportunity to act responsible and independent, I felt like I had learned a valuable lesson in life.
