What is a Cue Card: IELTS Speaking Part 2 includes cue cards containing topics on which candidates are to speak. Candidates get 2-3 minutes of time to speak and 1 minute for note-taking. Model Answer 1:

What it is?
Success is different for every individual. For the common man, success can be building a house or buying a car. For someone like Jeff Bezos, it would be making Amazon an omnipresent service across the globe. My parents' success is to see their kids well-accomplished and settled in life. I have had a checklist of things that I wanted to achieve in life. Fortunately, I was able to achieve one of them, which was to qualify for the state electricity board exams.

When did you achieve it?

After passing college, I worked hard for a year. This helped me crack the exam and I was assigned an Assistant Engineer position. It all happened about two years ago when I had just passed out from college and immediately started with my preparations. I had no vision of the result. All I ever wanted was to work as an Engineer on the State Electricity board. This helped me motivate and work towards my goal.

How did you achieve it?

I took coaching classes, studied for 14 hours, barely slept, ditched my phone, and barely talked to anyone. It was tough at first to study for such extended hours, but eventually, I got accustomed to it. After months of preparation, I was satisfied with the way I had performed in the exam. I was happy with this success that I had achieved as not many people apply for government jobs in the state.

Describe how important this success in you life is/was.

I decided to choose this path as I wanted to stay closer to my family. After my senior secondary, I had spent time away from my hometown. It was now the time I wanted to be near home and help my family in every way. I was overwhelmed with emotions when I finally found out that I had qualified. It was one of the pinnacle moments of my life.

Model Answer 2:

What was it?
I have always wanted to own my own business. One of the greatest achievements in my life was when I opened a gift shop in my hometown. I always wanted to do something on my own and not be stuck in the 9-5 jobs. My hometown is a small place, thus, it doesn't have all the facilities of big cities. Every year thousands of tourists vacation here and take back some beautiful memories. My idea for opening a gift shop was to provide the tourist's souvenirs at a very reasonable price.

When did you achieve it?

I planned to keep artifacts, and famous items, from across the state so that tourists didn’t have to search for specific items and could buy them at my store. I also made up a website for my store so that anyone could place orders if they are not able to commute. I also added a small sitting area that served coffee and snacks. This would help tourists to shop and hang out at the store. It has been almost two years now since I opened this cafe, however, it was quite a struggle.

How did you achieve it?

Initially, I couldn’t find a spot for my gift store. The spot I was looking for was way over my budget. I somehow arranged the money and paid for that particular spot, and it would be easily accessible by tourists or visitors. After discussing the plan with the architect 4-5 times, the plan was finally ready. The construction of the store took about 8 months to complete. I had postponed the work of the website, as I first wanted to see the store flourish. After completion of the store, I started marketing it. Instagram, Facebook, handing out pamphlets I tried every which way to reach the customers.

Describe how important this success in you life is/was

Fortunately, the store flourished, and with the profits that I earned, I hired people to develop the website. To sum it up it was an important phase in my life as I had always been wondering about opening a store of my own. I didn't want to be stuck in jobs in an IT sector or a government office, thus, it was the best thing for me to do. Fortunately, I achieved what I wanted to, and am more than happy today with its success.

What is it?
Success has different meanings for different people. For me, success is not just getting good grades, or getting into a reputed college. It is also the overall development of a person. I believe in making short-term goals and achieving them. These short-term goals serve as milestones that lead us closer to our long-term goals.

When did you achieve it?

About four years ago when I had just finished college, I decided to enroll in one of the coaching centers in Delhi for GATE coaching. I had always known it to be one of the toughest exams in the country. More than five lac people apply for this exam every year only about half qualify and get placed in a reputed PSU or a college/university. Fortunately, it was my first attempt, I was able to score well and get placed in a reputed PSU. It was my dream come true as I had not hoped to clear the exam on my first attempt.

How did you achieve it?

As it was a difficult exam, I thought my chances of clearing the exam were minimal. However, I never gave up and diligently kept preparing for the exam. I worked very hard, studied day and night, and didn’t indulge in any wasteful activities like going out with friends, or spending hours chatting on the phone. It was a time that I thought I had to endure to succeed and do well in life.

Describe how important this success in you life is/was.

After months of struggle, I finally cleared the exam with flying colors and further started applying at different PSUs. With my score I could get into any PSUs across the country, however, I chose the one closest to my place. It was an important moment in my life, and I will cherish it for a lifetime.
