Topic: Describe a Prize That You Received

Model Answer 1

What was it?

I haven't won many prizes in my life, perhaps because I haven't been that ambitious. One of those stories is what I'd like to share today. However, on a few occasions, I managed to outperform the odds and come out on top. The award was a book named “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” written by the legendary writer Jules Verne.

When you receive it?

At the time when I was in my 9th standard, I was awarded a storybook named “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” by my class teacher at the annual educational performance prize distribution ceremony. As I have mentioned earlier that I wasn’t that much ambitious and my results also were not upto the mark despite of being in one of the best private schools of the country where I belong. The environment at my high school was distinct because of how competitive everything was, even though everything there was fine. It was difficult to socialize with other students and create new friends, even for a regular student like myself. So, I felt like a different individual by my classmates and even by my teachers. They didn’t even talk to me at first whenever I had tried to begin a conversation with them, and also they had refused to help me in any academic purpose. Then I had decided to put some extra efforts in my studies and turned down my habits of playing games all the time, as it was my sole perspective to show my friends and my teachers that I can do better. Therefore, I had started studying hard for the annual examination, and at last the time came when I was awarded the storybook which I have mentioned for performing better than my previous semesters.

What did you do for it?

My class teacher told me when she saw my concentration in studies that if I will be able to score good in my annual examination, she will gift me the book named “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” by Jules Verne in front of my classmates. I had been shown the movie by my father and from that onwards, the interest in getting the original book by the author grew inside me. Although my classmates laughed at me and mocked me by saying that I wouldn’t be able to get that award as I was upto no good for them.

And explain how you felt about it?

The day when my class teacher called by my name in order to award me the book as a prize for achieving good results in my annuals, I became euphoric and jubilant and my happiness crossed all the boundaries. I felt delighted and I was in tears because I had studied hard in order to receive the reward from my class teacher. My class teacher also gave a short speech towards my classmates setting an example of me that if anyone wants to achieve something in life and works hard to acquire it then nothing in this world could even stop him from achieving it and this became a cherry upon the cake to my happiness. She gave alot of blessings and my friends also felt sorry for the past behaviors towards me by them, and raised their hands of friendship towards me. This prize will therefore always remain as one of the best prizes which I have received yet in my life.

What was it?

As a result of my participation in a chess competition, I received one of the nicest rewards in my life, and I'm going to tell you about it and the prize I won. The competition was hosted at my institution in Berlin, Germany, around three years ago. The chess competition was organised in conjunction with our college's yearly sporting events. Despite the fact that the event featured a number of other competitions, I decided to play chess because I love it so much.

When you receive it?

Mental combat, in my opinion, is one of the most exclusive forms of conflict, and it is especially prevalent in chess tournaments. I had to battle and outsmart my opponents in a variety of phases to win the competition. The tournament took three days to finish the first stage, and another two days to complete the final competition. I played with passion and drive to win the championship, and my perseverance was rewarded. Despite this, competing against opponents with great talents and skills was extremely difficult.

And explain how you felt about it?

Chess was not as popular as the other competitions among the contestants. Many others may have been turned off by the slow pace of the game. As a result, there were a total of eight players in the competition. The games' competition and tension were simply incredible.

What did you do for it?

After winning the chess competition, I was engulfed by a cloud of happiness. I won the inter-departmental chess championship at our college by defeating the previous winner. My parents were overjoyed when I announced that I had won the title of the new champion. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.

To illustrate the reward, I thought it was tiny in comparison to the accomplishment. Not the money or the trophy, but the glory of winning the title is the true prize. However, I still have the trophy I received, and I used the prize money of 500 euros to purchase some books for myself, as well as a few gifts for my parents and younger sister.

Model Answer 3

What was it?

Everyone aspires to be famous and wants to be rewarded for their efforts and recognised for their accomplishments in a certain sector. This is just how we are by nature. Although pursuing fame and wealth has come to carry a negative connotation for no obvious reason, saying that people don't desire it would be hypocritical.

When you receive it?

When I entered my first elocution competition, I was in sixth grade. I'd always been fascinated by poetry and English literature in general, but I'd never had the courage to enter any contests. My English teacher, on the other hand, made me audition that year. The entire drive was a blur, and I was standing on stage getting an award from my principal before I realized it.

What did you do for it?

This was only the beginning. Following that, I began approaching and engaging in events that I enjoyed, such as story writing competitions, theater tryouts, debates, and so on.

Nothing, however, compared to my first elocution competition and winning first prize. It was because of it that I was able to accept and use my abilities, as well as learn to seize opportunities. That first taste of praise and admiration made me so pleased, and I recognized that I am someone with abilities, someone who can shine if I work hard enough.

And explain how you felt about it?

Although it is true that the award is unimportant and that participation is all that matters, that specific reward was like salvation for me, who was so insecure and skeptical of myself and my abilities. I believe that if I hadn't won, I might have given up and never participated in any other activities again. As a result, receiving only praise for deserving work is just as vital as providing constructive criticism, because you never know how it will affect someone's life.
