Where did you go?

My memories will always hold the fascination and splendour of Kashmir. It is indeed heaven on earth. Kashmir, which is mostly located in the Himalayan Mountains, provided us with a wealth of experiences that we enjoyed by partaking in the fun activities. Some of the objects were unique to this location because of the location and the terrain.

When did you go there?

In 1990, my parents and I travelled to Kashmir. It was a special family vacation. We don't typically go on vacation, but that particular year, we were all free. So, we went on a short journey. It felt revitalising.

What did you do there?

First, the boatman took us across the Dal Lake in Shikara as we relaxed and took in the splendour of the far-off mountains. There was no crowd of irate people shouting in a harsh voice, no smoke, no sound of the cars. The only sounds we could hear were the boatman's oar gently breaking the surface of the water and our hands dipping into the chilly lake water. The following day, we slept the night in a Shikara home. The houseboat included WiFi. We also used the services they offered, including lunch. One of the most thrilling and enjoyable things we did in Kashmir was take the Gondola cable car. It offered the nicest views of the mountains covered in snow. We also sampled some of the regional Kashmiri food, such as Lamb Mutton Rogan Josh and Kashmiri Kahwa (tea).

And explain why you would/or would not visit this place again?

Even now, years later, it still feels like a dream to me. Growing up, I learned a lot about the water and really enjoyed watching it on television. I can't help but be drawn to it by its beautiful aura. It is without a doubt one of the greatest treasures that nature has given to humankind. I feel like I know enough about it now to say that I don't want to visit Kashmir again.

Where did you go?

My fascination to travel made me visit several places along with my parents. Even my family always found time to take me and travel to different places. My parents always wanted to visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar. They decided to take the trip finally on my 7th birthday, because they wanted me to remember the visit, in parts if not vividly. I had read about the Golden Temple in my General Knowledge Class and had heard from my peers that it is a temple made from pure gold.

When did you go there?

My family decided on a 5-day trip to Amritsar. We decided to leave 2 days before my seventh birthday so that we can be there on time to visit the temple on the morning of my birthday. Since it was very far from my hometown, we decided to take a flight which was all the more exciting for me, as it was the first time I was going to board a plane. As much as I was excited, I was equally scared to get on a plane. However, my father made sure to distract me with snacks and stories and I didn’t even realize when the flight took off.

What did you do there?

By the time we reached, it was already evening. So we ate the famous butter chicken of Amritsar which is one of the things I still remember from the trip, that’s how delicious it was. The next day, we went around to various places in and around Amritsar and ate loads of good food. I vaguely remember going to Wagah Border and singing all the patriotic songs out loud. Finally, on the day of my birthday, we went to the much-awaited Golden Temple- it was the most serene and peaceful place. I remember something about the place was so calming that when we sat inside, I nearly dozed off. The place was beautiful and so was the Halwa which was given to every devotee who visited the temple.

Explain why you would/or would not visit this place again?

It is one of those first memories I had as a child and though I don’t remember every detail of the trip. I surely remember the good food and the peaceful vibe of the temple. These two reasons are enough to pull me back to this city again. This place enchanted me a lot and I would love to visit the Golden Temple again.

Where did you go?

Since I was young and in school I have learnt about how magnificent and beautiful the Taj Mahal is and have always wanted to visit the place. Being one of the seven wonders of the world I wanted to experience the grandeur of the Taj Mahal. When I was in standard V in school, I visited Taj Mahal with my family. I’ve heard so many stories about this masterpiece that it was a clear choice. Through my project, I got to know many interesting facts about the Taj Mahal which intrigued me to visit the place. I told my parents how much I wanted to visit the Taj Mahal and they told me that they would take me there by the end of the year if I perform well academically.

When did you go there?

I was so eager to visit the place that I outperformed everyone in the class. My parents were so happy that they immediately planned a trip to Agra. It was the 1st week of December that we decided to visit Agra. My parents also told me about the Agra Fort which was nearby the Taj Mahal and was also very majestic.

What did you do there?

On reaching there, We first went to visit the Taj Mahal but getting in was so difficult, as there were tons of people visiting that day. But only a glimpse of the Taj Mahal was enough to take all our frustration away. I was astounded to see the tombstone. It was mesmerizingly beautiful. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. I remember sitting and staring at it for a few minutes, speechless. Seeing me so happy, my parents were overwhelmed too. Then we visited the Agra Fort, which was so huge that I felt like I would get lost inside the structure. I was disappointed seeing how many artworks and wall paintings were ruined and stolen.

Explain why you would/or would not visit this place again?

This trip was my all-time favorite trip because it was the first time I wanted to visit a place and enjoyed it so much. To date, I’m in awe of the Taj Mahal and have visited and will be visiting the place on my own several times.
