Describe a person who has had a big influence on you Cue Card answers are given below. The candidate has to talk about a scenario given in the question. Who This Person Was

This is quite a difficult question as there isn't anyone who stands out as having had a big influence - apart from my parents, of course, who've been great.

When You Met The Person

But there was a teacher at secondary school. I lost interest in school when I was about thirteen. I don't know why but I became more interested in music and sport and didn't really pay attention to my studies.

What The Person Was Like

My teachers realized this was happening and a lot of them seemed to give up on me, but Mrs Thomas - she taught me Art - really made an effort to get me back on track. To start with, she always insisted I sit at the front of the class, right in front of her desk.

You see, one of the things I'd started to do was to sit at the back of the class with my friends and spend the lesson talking and mucking about, so making me sit at the front put a stop to that. She was also really kind. She wanted to see me achieve my potential and was prepared to spend time getting me to focus on my studies.

What The Person Did That Made Them So Significant In Your Life

I don't know if it was just down to Mrs Thomas, but I did get through that period in the end and I got down to work in time to pass my exams. Some of it was down to me but Mrs Thomas helped me make the right decisions.

Who This Person Was

We owe a lot to those around us who in some way helped us become the people we are today. But perhaps we can single out ``teacher'' as the ``most important'' one.

When You Met The Person

Today I would like to tell you about one such teacher, my English teacher, who has had a great influence on me to change my life for the better. His name is Mr. Han Sen and he taught me English at my university. I met him for the first time when I wanted to enroll in an English composition course, but unfortunately it was full. And my application for admission was rejected (because there are usually a large number of applicants in China, but a fairly limited number of places), but of course I could not get "special permission from Mr. Han". So I hurried to him and asked for permission.

But even though he wasn't too happy to see me, he still put me in his class. Anyway, Mr. Han made it clear from the first day of the course that all he wanted to say was "business" and that he was going to make English really "easy" for us.

In fact, Mr. Han sometimes asked each of his students individually whether they understood his lectures. To make sure we were really serious about learning English, he asked us exactly how many hours of our daily study schedule we spend learning English. Teacher Hung has inspired me to live a better life.

Because he would never give up on me (I was really "bad" at English) or the other students until I succeeded.

In fact, it is thanks to his tireless efforts that I am now able to express my thoughts in English. After all, it was Dr. Han who taught me to never give up on my dreams, no matter how many times I fail or how difficult the circumstances around me are.

A father is a hero to his children and the sacrifices he makes to bring smiles to his family are unparalleled. My father has always been my inspiration and still is.

He is also my biggest mentor. At different stages of my life, he influenced and motivated me to be a good person, fight against life's adversities, achieve success, and most importantly be happy in life. The way they did it was exemplary. I want to be the father to my children that he was to me.

I have known him since the first day of my life.

In fact, I carry his genetic code. How attached I was to his father in childhood shaped my psychological development. I still feel a strong bond between us. It's the same way I felt as a helpless child. He is a university professor and teaches physics to students.

He is a highly respected mentor to his students. He loves reading books, visiting historical places and learning new cuisines. He often goes fishing, but is having trouble catching fish. He also likes classic movies, and we often watch movies together.

His favorite movie is the Hollywood classic ``It's a Wonderful Life''. Well, to tell you more about him.

He hates it when people break promises and when students cheat on exams. Those who knew him personally say he was a humble and honest man who helped others throughout his life. He was there when I needed him and is still my biggest shield. He encouraged me to keep trying. I always thought that failure meant shame, but he pointed out that failure is the greatest lesson in life. He taught me to study with interest, not just to score on exams. I'm still learning from him. He invisibly shaped my personality and I am greatly influenced by him to achieve his excellence.
