Model Answer 1

Where is it?

My hometown is Kolkata which is the capital city of the state of West Bengal in India. Kolkata is known for its rich heritage, old buildings, food, culture, and street foods. I love every nook and corner of the city. My favorite part of this magnificent city is the Prinsep Ghat. The first time I visited this place was with my brother. Since then, it has been one of my most treasured places in the city.

What is it like?

Princep Ghat is located along the banks of the river Hooghly. It was built during the British Raj in India. The Palladian porch built in memory of James Prinsep (after whom the ghat is named) is known for its impressive architecture. The Vidyasagar Setu, also known as the Second Hooghly Bridge, overlooks the Prinsep Ghat. There are numerous food stalls in the area. They also provide boating facilities that take people accross the river. The lights under the bridge look beautiful at night.

What do you do there?

I usually visit Prinsep Ghat during late afternoons and sit on the banks of the river Hooghly. Sometimes, I walk along the beautified riverfront between Prinsep Ghat and Babughat (Baje Kadamtala Ghat) and have some fast food from the local shops. At other times, I might take a boat ride on the Hooghly River.

Why do you enjoy spending time there?

The scenic view of Princep Ghat, especially during sunsets, is quite spectacular. It leaves me spellbound. I like to sit near the banks of the river Hooghly and enjoy the light breeze during the evenings. It makes me feel refreshed and calm. Occasionally, some young people might come to the Ghat and sing. I like the aesthetic vibe it creates. I also love the occasional boat rides and the almost 2-kilometer walk along the riverfront from Princep Ghat to Baje Kadamtala Ghat. The foods from the local shops are also very delicious and always leave me wanting more. These are the reasons why I love each and every moment spent at Prinsep Ghat. It makes me feel refreshed and alive.

Where is it?

I live in the historical city of Kolkata, the capital of the state of West Bengal in India. My city has numerous recreational spots and is known across the world for its splendid colonial architecture, folk music, culture and traditional Bengali cuisine. Although Kolkata has multiple recreational places yet one of my favorite places in this city will be Rabindra Sarobar Lake.

What is it like?

The Rabindra Sarobar Lake, formerly known as Dhakuria Lake, is an artificial lake located in the southern part of the city of Kolkata. The lake expands over an area of 192 acres of land and consists of parks made for children, gardens and even an auditorium. The lake is known nationwide for its unique biodiversity with a variety of plant and animal species living in this region. The lake attracts almost 107 species of birds in the region. Numerous rowing and swimming clubs also exist in this complex, among which the Calcutta Rowing Club (CRC, 1958) is one of the oldest clubs.

What do you do there?

I usually go for morning and evening walks at Rabindra Sarobar Lake. Sometimes, I even sit beside the lake and watch the children playing in the park. At other times, I go to the park with my friends after a tiring day and simply sit and spend some time with them.

Why do you enjoy spending time there?

The Rabindra Sarobar Lake has great scenic and aesthetic beauty that I completely enjoy. I love walking in the grass of the gardens in the Lake.
