When it was

For me and my family, the New Year's event the year before was truly an exhilarating rollercoaster. The thrill and joy that come with the first day of a new year are unmatched despite the enormous number of festivals that take place each year. The bulk of chores, even those involving joining a gym or giving up unhealthy habits, feel more like fresh starts when we enter a new year. making commitments that, despite our knowledge that we might fail to keep them after the second day, we continue to do. Everyone prefers enjoying the special occasion in their own different ways however, what remains common is the fun, food, friends, and family. As New Year depicts the very first day of the year, it is assumed to leave all the bad experiences in the past and welcome the future wholeheartedly. It’s an occasion where people pray for everyone’s happiness, well-being, and prosperity.

What you did and Who was with you

On the 31st night, my uncle’s family knocked on our door along with my aunt and two little cousins to give us a surprise visit and celebrate the New Year with us. It was definitely an unexpected visit because they used to live in another country and such a meeting would have meant a flying journey of a minimum of 12 hours. The kids were jubilant, they insisted on cutting a cake and decorating the house. Very soon, we finished everything and sat together in the living room. We all were awake till the clock hit 12, kids were overjoyed and started jumping with the countdown. Everyone ran to the terrace as fireworks started and the view reaching the top was indeed mesmerizing. The dazzling fireworks and the bursting sounds welcomed the New Year.

How you celebrated this new year

We had some great food and especially tons of chocolates. No one was ready to sleep, hence we decided to play some board games. Every game ended up either flipping the board or kids running over them. We gossiped till 2 about every single thing that ever existed. Our conversation started with the incidents of how our aunt handled unsolicited opinions back in her old days. How with her savage nature, she ended up planning a trip to a hill station, which never really happened. Time went by quickly and soon everyone slept.

On the eve of the New Year's holiday last year, my father and brother made the decision to make breakfast for everyone and give the women a break.

After boasting about their cooking skills and discussing over an hour on the menu, they decided to experiment with Italian cuisine. The breakfast was served and fortunately, it was edible. My father, brother, and my family were with me. However, the moment we entered the kitchen, the malodorous aroma filled the air. Soon the sight of a messy kitchen overpowered any other feeling, especially my mother's enthusiasm for going out to shop. It took her almost hours to clean the mess. We then decided to cheer her up by taking her out for good food and shopping.

How you celebrated this new year

We visited a nearby restaurant that made amazing fast food however since it was the very last day of the year all the seats were occupied.

Hence, all of us came to the conclusion that we'll be heading over to the barbeque restaurant. The restaurant was famous for its expensive dishes and mouth-watering barbequed tortillas and salad. After having a delicious meal, we went shopping in a mall as discussed. Returning home we got stuck in huge traffic and ended up playing music in the car and lost our precious three hours stuck on the road. By the time we reached home, it was already eight. The next few hours went by cooking for dinner and listening to some good music. My father surprisingly brought a lot of gifts from his cupboard which he sneakily hid after coming back. He even ordered the cake and as the clock turns 12, we happily wished each other and gave a warm hug.

My pals unexpectedly showed up at my door on New Year's Eve in 2018! With my two other housemates, I used to live in a flat. I couldn't go back home to ring in the New Year since I had job assignments to do and a crucial meeting the next day.

Who was with you

While all my roommates left for their parents’ house earlier, I was all alone. I had no plans of going out and was still in my pajamas sipping my coffee excitedly while watching an amazing action movie. Suddenly my doorbell rang and when I went out to check, they were my school friends who I hadn't met for so many years.

What you did

One of them pulls out a glamorous black dress from her purse, the other with all the makeup products and hair straightener. Within a minute, they dolled me up. No one even bothered to listen to me and kept refusing my offer of staying and enjoying the movie together.

How you celebrated this new year

They took me out to a nearby restaurant which they already reserved and we happily cut the cake together discussing how many school days were the best. The restaurant had invited a singer on the occasion of New Year but my crazy friends pushed me to sing and I ended up getting a lot of applause.
