What day it is?
As an Indian citizen, I find it a very proud moment for me when we celebrate a number of national days in India throughout the year. One of the most important national days in India is Independence day. We celebrate this day on August 15 every year.

How it is celebrated?
Indians celebrate 15th August with full joy and happiness. This day is marked by parades, flag hoisting, cultural programs, and some events that present the tradition of Indian culture. Most of the people try to wear the clothes that match the color of the national flag and others wear the traditional clothes. This day is celebrated in various schools and colleges, and people also arrange special events to celebrate the spirit of freedom and unity. Children perform the dances on the cultural songs and prepare the poetry and poems for their country ‘India’.

What is the historical significance of this day?
Independence day is celebrated with full patriotism and enthusiasm because on this day, India has gained independence from the British colonial rule in 1947. The Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag of India at Red Fort in Delhi. He will deliver a speech to the people of India to explain the main reason behind the celebration of India. It motivates the school children and government & private employees to arrange the flag hoisting events at their respective places.

I feel honored and fortunate to be in a nation where I wake up every single day and start my day with full freedom and joyness without worrying about being subjected to injustice. The grand republic day ceremonies are organized on the Rajpath, in front of Indian President, in New Delhi. The various performances such as cultural dances parade at the Rajpath as a tribute to India, singing national anthem, are performed by people all around the world to express the harmony, and tradition of India. It is also celebrated in various schools, colleges, offices and institutes located all around the India. Children participates in the cultural activities, poem, singing, theater activities, etc. to express their joy and bring the sense of nationalism among everyone.

Republic day is celebrated on January 26 every year in India. It is celebrated because on this day, the Indian constitution came into effet in 1950, making India a republic country. It took the place of the Government of India Act 1935 as the country’s governing law and transforming India into a republic nation from the British rule.

Explain how you feels about this day.
It is really enjoyable and proud moment to celebrate this day. Indian government declared this day as a national holiday to honor the establishment of the Indian constitution which was made by the drafting committee, leaded by the Dr. BR Ambedkar. It makes us learn about the struggles that our country did for our Independence and explains the rich cultural heritage of this country.

I love to celebrate this day because it helps me learn the lessons taught by the Mahatma Gandhi.
