Model Answer 1

What the decision was and why you made that decision?

Every decision we make throughout our lives does not, sadly, result in the best outcome. We consequently regret our actions and hold ourselves accountable. We should be aware, though, that this is just the way life is and that occasionally things won't go our way. We are only able to go forward and learn from our errors. I'll describe an event that happened a few years ago and how I ultimately came to regret the choice I had taken at the time. Now, we know that our prior generations are not as flexible when it comes to technology as we are and we at times need to continuously monitor as well as guide them so that they can use technologies smoothly. So, the incident took place in 2015 when my mother had just brought her first smartphone. She had learned the basics like how to make a call, send a message, search things on Google, etc. Thus, I had assumed that she would end up learning things gradually and not spend the time I should have guided her.

How long it took to realise it was a wrong decision?

Also, at the time I Was in high school and thus did not take out much time to monitor how she had been using her phone. One day, I got to know she has got inclined to online shopping and is ordering this through her phone. I didn't give much thought to it and thought she would do fine.

Why do you think it was a wrong decision you made?

One morning she came saying that she is never going to shop online and more as she thinks it is more pricey compared to a physical store. I asked her if she uses the discounts and offers that keep on coming during the festive season and also every now and then in some of the renowned online stores. She told me that she had no idea about it and doesn't even know how to avail of the discounts. I immediately realized that it was my fault and explained to her how things work and how she can avail of coupons and discounts.

Explain how you would alter that decision if you could

That is when I came to know that she has been paying so much for the thighs she could have gotten half the price if she availed of the offers and discount, however, since I taught her she has been doing pretty well and has got much used to it now.

Model Answer 2

What the decision was and why you made that decision?

Decision-making plays an important role in the life of every individual. It is as important in workplace and business dealing as it is in personal life. At times, the decision that you end up taking casually affects the entire way our lives function. So, it is very important to take the right decisions at the right time because sometimes the right move also becomes wrong if the timing is wrong. Thus, timing is also a factor to consider while making important life decisions. So, here I'm going to narrate a decision I took in my life, which was wrong and has changed the entire equation of life for me. So, it was the time when I had just finished my high school board examinations and was about to start my college life. So, in the last few years of my life in high school, I had planned to take up Journalism and Mass Communication in college and become a photojournalist in the future. So, were all my future plans back then.

How long it took to realise it was a wrong decision?

Since I was the first person in my family to attend college, there was no one that could guide me or provide me with career advice me in the prior stage of deciding my college and course. So, I ended up applying to all possible colleges in Kolkata. I had applied for Journalism and also just to be on the safe side I had also applied for Political Science, the subject in which I had scored the highest marks in my board examinations. Schools in Kolkata do not have Journalism as a subject in their syllabus in general.

Why do you think it was a wrong decision you made?

When the merit lists of the colleges came out I didn't find my name in the 1st list for Journalism but I got listed in the 1st list for Political Science and since was no one to guide me, I didn’t know whether to wait or complete my admission in the subject i li enlisted for. I wasn’t even sure if more lists would come out. In the meantime, I saw all my batch mates getting admitted thus, without giving a thought to it I got admitted in a college with a subject I was not so interested in.

Explain how you would alter that decision if you could

Later I found out that more lusts were out and my name was also present in the lists for Journalism but since I had already taken admitted I had no choice but to change the subject. Thus, I had to continue with Political Science only and give my wish of studying Journalism. I wish I could go back in time and actually wait for further lists and study the subject I want but unfortunately, that isn't possible anymore.

Model Answer 3

Explain how you would alter that decision if you could

People that we come across in our lives are not always good people and it is always better to understand and accept this to move forward in life. There are people that only pop up in your life to teach you a lesson. You learn a lesson, avoid making that mistake again and move forward in life. Also, it is not necessary that these people are going to be someone around you physically, they can also be distant people appearing at various times. Here, I'm going to narrate an incident where I made a wrong decision under the influence of some people that I don't even know personally.

Why do you think it was a wrong decision you made?

This incident took place one to two years back. I was looted by some unknown group of people via a phone call. So, it was a regular day off for me, I was at my house just chilling and I received a phone call from an unknown number claiming that they are a renowned shopping portal that I generally shop from. A female voice on the phone call informed me that I have won a laptop from a contest that was going on in their portal.

Why do you think it was a wrong decision you made?

As it was a known shopping website that I shop from I was also aware of the contests that go on there. I believed them. Thereafter they sent me a form where I had to feel personal as well as my bank account details which I generally use to make payments. At that time it didn't click to me that sharing these could be dangerous. As I shared the form with there was an OTP that came in and I was asked to share that too. As I shared the OTP they told me that the process is over and I’ll be receiving the laptop within a week.

Explain how you would alter that decision if you could

I was very thrilled since I had thought that it was the first time my luck has favored me in these contests. But later that night I was shocked to see that about twenty thousand rupees got deducted from my bank balance. When I shared the incident with my older sister explained to me that I’ve been scammed and these scams take place every now and then. Since then I've stopped responding to such calls.
