The given diagram illustrates the cross-section of two tunnels joining different parts of the world. They can be compared based on the places they connect, their dimensions and the time that is taken to build them. Figure 1 shows a road tunnel joining European countries France and Italy, while Figure 2 shows a railway tunnel linking two islands in Japan Hakodate city and Aomori city. The time taken to complete the Seikan Railway Tunnel is a lot more than the time taken to build the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel. While it took 42 years to complete the Seikan Railway Tunnel which started in 1946 and finished in 1988, the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel was ready in just 8 years between 1957-1965. The length and depth of the two tunnels vary greatly too. The length of the Seikan Railway Tunnel is 53.85km while the Mont Blanc is much shorter with 11.6km only. On the contrary, the depth of the former tunnel is less with just 240 metres, the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel is much deeper measuring 3.5km at its maximum. Another observable difference between the two is that while Mont Blanc is built through the mountain, the Seikan Railway is built under the sea-bed.

The following diagram represents the cross-section of two tunnels namely Mont Blanc Road Tunnel and Seikan Railway Tunnel. While the former is built to connect two European countries, France and Italy, another is built to connect two Japanese island cities, Hakodate and Aomori. By looking at the diagram, we can deduce that the Seikan Railway Tunnel of Japan is longer than the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel.

The length of the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel is 11.60km while the length of the Seikan Railway Tunnel is 53.85km, which is 42.25km more. This also explains the reason why it took a long time to build the railway tunnel. While the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel was completed in just 8 years (1957-1965), the Seikan Railway Tunnel took 42 years to get completed (1946-1988). This means it took 34 more years for the railway tunnel to get built than the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel. It can also be noticed that the Mont Blanc Road Tunnel was built under a mountain as opposed to the Seikan Railway Tunnel which is underneath the seabed. The depth of the two tunnels varies as well. The Mont Blanc Road Tunnel has a depth of 3.5km while the Seikan Railway Tunnel has a depth of only 240 metres. While both the tunnels vary in dimensions and timeline, they are similar in functioning.

The diagrams show the cross-section of two tunnels. The first figure shows the linking of two European countries while the second figure shows the joining of Japanese islands. From the diagram, it can be concluded that the construction of the Seikan Railway Tunnel in Japan took longer than the Mont-Blanc Road Tunnel. While the former took 42 years to get completed, the latter took only 8 years. It can also be inferred that the Seikan Railway Tunnel is larger in length measuring 53.85km while the Mont-Blanc Road Tunnel is shorter measuring only 11.60km. Both the tunnels vary greatly in the depth too but the depth of the European tunnel is more than the Japanese tunnel measuring 3.5km. The Seikan Railway Tunnel has a depth of only 240 metres. The difference between the tunnel can also be observed on the ground that the Japanese tunnel was built on the sea to link two islands namely Hakodate city and Aomori city while the European tunnel was built through a mountain linking France and Italy.
