Topic:  Hosting a major sporting event such as the Olympics or the football World Cup offers significant benefits to the country concerned, yet the costs involved can be excessive and may divert funds from other important areas.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

Because many see the Olympics as an opportunity for economic growth, national organizations make great efforts to be chosen to host sporting events such as the Olympics. But opponents say this is a waste of money that could be better spent on much-needed public services. Organizing large-scale sporting events certainly provides opportunities for huge investments in transport and general areas. Major events require infrastructure, and these can have substantial long-term benefits for the country in question. Additionally, there are significant opportunities for job creation, for example in the case of the London 2012 Olympics, where poor areas of the city were regenerated.

It also said that hosting the event could lead to an increase in tourism, and would give the country an opportunity to showcase its organizational and creative talent, which could in turn lead to future business and investment opportunities.

But 4,444 opponents argue that similar results can be achieved at a much lower cost.

They argue that investment in infrastructure should not depend on whether a country hosts major events, but that improvements should be made as needed. They also point out the enormous cost of security measures and the disruption that such an event can cause for a company. Additionally, opponents question the benefits to tourism, arguing that it could deter people who aren't interested in the event from actually visiting the country. In my opinion, organizing an event of this scale seems to be very popular among local residents, and if there are long-term benefits, it would be a project worth participating in.

Previously, due to the lack of technological advances, sporting events were organized only at the national level. However, in today's era, it is possible to host international gaming events, and the country hosting the event will be in the spotlight as it can bring countless benefits. This will be discussed later in this essay with proper justification.

However, the disadvantages cannot be ignored either. The first advantage is that the economy of the host country improves. Simply put, international events attract many passionate sports fans from overseas to support their respective teams. Additionally, they stay in hotels and motels, ultimately contributing to the tourism industry and thus the country's economy. To make the visit worthwhile, they want to explore the country's popular tourist destinations that provide employment to locals in the tourism industry.

For example, outsiders need a tour guide to make a proper schedule and get advice when visiting tourist attractions. Additionally, a second benefit is that it improves the national character and reputation of the host country. By doing so, we will be able to build good relations with other countries. Moreover, this eternal bond may cause many countries to exaggerate their relationship with the commercial level and form industrial clusters in the country. It will also spread the traditions of this country to the world, which will lead to fruitful results in the long run.

For example, in 2011, the Cricket World Cup was held in India, and after that many foreigners from all over the world started wearing traditional Indian costumes, which I found very attractive. On the other hand, states must first invest in starting these events, which requires more capital. To achieve this, the government plans to divert funds from ongoing projects to impact citizens in other parts of the country. For example, in 2011, the Indian government spent $750 million globally, but the construction of huge infrastructure was delayed, affecting many people and their daily lives in the region.

In conclusion, the government will misappropriate funds and affect the lives of local residents, but this event will not only improve the country's economy, but also its reputation and attachment to foreign countries. Therefore, the country should host such events, as there are actually many advantages and disadvantages.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Many countries in today's contemporary era firmly advocate for the organization of sports events such as the Olympics and World Cup, citing numerous advantages. I too, share a strong agreement with this viewpoint; subsequently - in following paragraphs - I will present my perspective.

First and foremost, the local economy derives substantial monetary benefits from hosting global sports tournaments: international visitors to the host nation inject money into various expenditures. This dynamic directly bolsters foreign exchange when people across nations choose to spend their wealth within this particular territory. Furthermore, these events catalyze growth in the domestic job market; they generate numerous employment opportunities for country residents. As a result of increased local income tax payments, the government allots significant funding for developing local infrastructure such as roads, buildings and stadiums. This year in Australia - host to the Cricket World Cup - serves as an illustration: numerous new sports facilities and accommodations now stand constructed.

Moreover, as a nation orchestrates such an exclusive event, its global popularity experiences a dramatic surge. Consequently, numerous international tourists journey to the hosting country; this transforms it into a renowned tourist destination. The exposure provided by these visits allows many foreigners to gain knowledge about the host nation--an element instrumental in amplifying that country's appeal for tourism. After spectating the 2015 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand from our television screens, my family formulated a plan: to journey directly to this enchanting country and delve into its myriad of captivating attractions.

Conclusively: The unquestionable merits of hosting esteemed sports tournaments--such as the World Cup and Olympics, for instance--are simply too substantial to overlook; these events usher in a plethora of advantages both for the host country and its economy.
