Band 6 Answer

The above line graph demonstrates clearly regarding the consumption of three fast food items of British citizens between 1970 and 1990. The fast food items include hamburgers, fish & chips, and pizza. It can be seen that the highest consumption of fast food items fish & chips, hamburger are showing an upward trend in consumption over 20 years. Further, the consumption of pizza shows a downward trend of consumption in the period of 20 years.

According to the line graph, consumption of pizza depicts that around 300 grams of the fats food was consumed during 1970. This is the amount consumed by people in Britain per week by each person. This trend shows a decline in consumption till 1985 where it stabilised for five years with consumption of 200 grams of pizza per week per person. It then increased to 210 grams in 1990. On the other hand, hamburger and fish & chips consumption was lower than 100 grams in 1970 per person per week. In the following years in 1980, while hamburger consumption increased to 100 grams, fish & chips increased to 150 grams. The trend for consuming fish & chips increased from 1980 to 1990 by 300 grams with people consuming 500 grams per week per person in 1990. In the case of hamburgers, which saw a steady increase of consumption at 110 grams in 1985, it increased drastically in the next five years. People were consuming 300 grams of hamburger in 1990 per week per person. Overall, fish & chips and hamburgers’ consumption increased over 20 years. Although the highest increase in the consumption of fast food can be seen for fish & chips in 1990.

Band 7 Answer

The above graph provides information regarding the consumption of fast food in Britain of three different kinds of food including – hamburger, fish & chips and pizza. The above data on this issue is based on the duration of 1970 to 1990. The graph highlights the changes in the pattern of fast food consumption over a period of 20 years. It can be seen that people shifted their choice of fast food from pizza to hamburger and fish & chips in Britain. This implies that pizza consumption declined over the 20 years.

It can be seen that pizza consumption shows a much downward trend in comparison to the other two. The graph has been able to present the consumption of fast food of these three items in grams per week per person. However, it increased to around 1000 grams in 1990. In 1970 to 1980 consumption of pizza can be seen between 300 grams per person per week to 200 grams per person per week respectively. From 1985 to around 1987 consumption of pizza was 200 grams and rose slightly to 201 grams in 1990. In the case of hamburger and fish & chips the trend shows an upward rise. In 1970 consumption of 90 grams of fish & chips can be seen, with the intake increasing from 170 grams in 1980,to 500 grams in 1990. Similarly, in 1970 only 5 grams of fish and chips was consumed by people in Britain. This number also increased from between 1985 and 1990 where it reached to around 300 grams.

Band 8 Answer

The line graph in the above image highlights the weekly per capita consumption of fish & chips, pizza and hamburger in Britain between 1970 and 1990. It can be seen precisely that the consumption of fish and chips and hamburgers have increased during the given period. Further, the demand and consumption of pizza has significantly decreased in the same period.

The graph illustrates the consumption of fast food in grams per person per week. It can be seen that in 1970, consumption of pizza was at 300 grams per person per week. However, in the case of fish & chips and hamburgers consumption was as low as 90 grams and 20 grams respectively, per week in 1970. However, consumption of pizza decreased considerably per person per week over the next 10 years. Comparatively, it can be seen that the consumption of fish & chips soared. From less than 100 grams per person each week in 1970 it increased to about 150 grams per person per week in 1980. Eventually, it was spiralling up to 500 grams per person per week in 1990. It can be significantly stated that Fish & chips had become the most popular food by 1990. Similarly, it can be estimated that the t even hamburger consumption showed an upward trend from 1970 to 1985. The consumption increased from nearly 90 grams per person per week from 1970 to 1985. It shot up to 300 grams per person per week in 1990 thereby becoming the second most popular fast food in the UK.
