With the advancement of technology, computers, and other gadgets have placed their foot in the education sector also. Nowadays, teachers and students are using computers to study. There are divided views regarding this. Some believe that it is a positive consequence while others are of the opinion that entails negative effects on students. In this essay, we will discuss both points of view.

Computers and mobiles have replaced the conventional style of teaching and education. It is much easier and also creates a lasting impact on the students. When the pandemic hit the country, the entire nation was on lockdown. Students were not allowed to go to school or anywhere else. Schools, colleges, everything was shut. There was no means for students to get their classes, if not the computer and modern technology. Everyone has benefitted from technology in their life. This is the reason they are progressing. Computers or laptops were the only way students could learn every day and keep in touch with their studies. This is a positive side of technology in the education sector. There are other benefits also. The Internet is the most important of them. Nowadays, exams are conducted over the internet, students can find any and everything over the net.

There are a few people who believe that if students spend more time using computers they might divert from their studies. They think that since everything is available over the internet, the students will misuse it. They will not study and waste their time. It leads students towards computer addiction which might further cause health issues like obesity, weak eyesight, irritability, anger issues, and so on. Addiction to computers can lead to numerous physical and mental health issues. Students sometimes misuse the World Wide Web to copy information for their project reports or any which leads to plagiarism. I believe that the parents will have to make their children understand of the advantages and disadvantages. In this world, everything is available, but it depends on us if we need that information. If we do not need that, we should not search for it. This thought has to be implemented in the students. In my opinion, students react well to watching videos, thus, aiding the learning process. Moreover, there is plenty of information available online if used effectively, thus, they save a trip to the library.

I think computers should collaborate with conventional methods of teaching. The human touch of the teachers is required in education but the internet can be of great help too. Students should be monitored on their use by parents at home. I believe that computers are a great way of education but we should not be completely dependent on it. We still need a pen and a paper to make the world a better place. .

Band 7 IELTS Essay

The question of whether the use of computers is a positive trend or not depends on how well they are used by each individual. Solely restricting the discussions to the education sector, I believe that computers are helpful for teachers. But may pose a few negative effects for students. Coming to the positive effects of the use of computers, there are many standardized tests that no longer require a human proctor.
The exams can be remotely proctored, which is necessary in some cases. Secondly, teachers can use computers to prepare video lectures, make attractive presentations by adding animations and share large documents.
As students retain more information via video lectures or presentations, the use of computers by teachers is rightly justified here. Thirdly, the use of computers and artificial intelligence has somewhat made life easier, not just for students but for everyone. Talking about the negative effects, students can very easily divert from their studies, if they spend more time using computers.
They can get addicted to computers and spend hours playing games, and watching videos. Spending extra time on social media websites and searching for unwanted information. I believe children from a young age should be taught the optimal use of computers or any electronic gadget for that matter. Spending hours in front of a computer can also lead to several behavioral and physical health issues. There are certain cons to the use of computers but they can be mitigated with proper guidance. Online classes prevent students and teachers from having proper interactions with one another and also fellow classmates.
Thus, a computer cannot provide the capacity to inculcate the students. With motivation, social, and interpersonal skills or participation in any of the extracurricular activities. Here the traditional methods of education are more preferred. The advantages outweigh the disadvantages of the use of computers. Education should not solely be dependent on computers but should be used in conjunction with the conventional methods of education.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

In today’s world wherein every day new trends are popping up, the use of technology has played a major role in a student’s life. With the advent of every new trend, there are discussions leading to contradicting views on whether computers are a positive trend or not. Computers are by far the best invention and have made the lives of students much easier. To summarize the positive effects of computers. I would like to first mention that online education has reduced the commute of students, thus, reducing their financial burdens.
Secondly, during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, computers played a major role in connecting students back to their learning process. The whole world was under lockdown, and computers played a significant role in connecting people around the world. Made office work easier and allowed students to attend classes from the comfort of their homes. Computers are widely used by teachers or professors to create presentations or video lectures that are a more effective way of learning according to some.
To further the discussion the demerits also need to be accounted for. Longer screen time on computers will lead students to suffer from health issues. Like obesity, weak eyesight and issues like irritability, anger issues etc. in students. Internet usage for students again needs to be monitored as there is humongous information available on the World Wide Web. Students can easily get access to unwanted information on the internet and it thereby has led to some serious criminal activity.
As per a report, almost 20 percent of cases are reported of criminal activity among the youth. The lack of conventional methods of teaching can also create a gap between the students and the teachers. Teachers will not be able to properly motivate their students. Students will also not be able to interact with one another. It creates an environment of home-schooling which hinders the growth of children. However, the interaction between the students and teachers can be increased if some dedicated activities are curated to nurture their relationships.
Organizing online games, or a one-to-one interview with the students are some ways to increase the communication between teachers, students and their peers. It might not be as effective as in person but will bridge the gap of non-communication. Even though there are demerits to using computers, I certainly believe that it is a positive trend. It has eased the life of students in many ways.
