Computer Ownership as a Percentage of the Population IELTS Writing Task 1 is an academic task. The IELTS academic writing task 1 deals with info-graphic questions. Given above, the first graph shows the figures of computer ownership in the form of percentage from 2002 to 2010, covering a period of 8 years and the second graph shows the computer ownership percentage specifically according to the education level in 2002 and in 2010. It is clearly evident from the given first graph that in the course of these 8 years, the demand and use of computers have increased significantly, which has been depicted by the gradual increase of computer ownership in the bar graphs from 2002 to 2010. Again , from the second graph, it can be concluded that the percentage of computer ownership is higher in the higher education levels.

According to the first graph, in the year 2002, more than half the population showed computer ownership which within the course of 4 years increased by approximately 10% and showed over 60% computer ownership in 2006. After 2006, the rate of increase of computer ownership didn't come down but increased gradually over the next 4 years. In 2008, about less than 70% of the population possessed a computer which by the end of 2010, rose to over 70%. This illustrates that by the year 2010, only a small proportion of the population didn't possess a computer.

From the second graph, it can be concluded that with the increase in the level or degree of education, the need or demand of computers has also increased, because of which the percentage of computer ownership has also increased over these years. According to the graph, in the case of no high school diploma, only about 15% of the population showed computer ownership in the year 2002, which by the end of 2010, grew by more than 25% . In 2010, over 40% of the population showed computer ownership. Same is the case with other educational levels. In all of them, there had not been any decrease but only an increase in the percentage of computer ownership. In case of the postgraduate qualifications, little less than 80% of the population possessed a computer in 2002, which by the end of 2010, grew to over 95%. Another important fact that can be concluded from the second graph is that the increase in the percentage of computer ownership from 2002 to 2010 is the maximum in case of college students ( incomplete ) . It showed an increase of computer ownership by about 30% over these eight years.

The following two graphs show the percentage of population showing computer ownership over a period of eight years from 2002 to 2010. The first one shows the percentage according to the general population and the second one shows the percentage according to the level or degree of education. It is clearly depicted in both of the graphs that the percentage or number of computer owners have increased gradually over these 8 years both in terms of general population and educational level.

Talking about the first graph, the percentage of computer ownership was over 50% in the year 2002. This figure increased by about 10% during the next four years and in 2006, there had been a percentage cover of over 60% in the year 2006. After 2006, again during the course of the next four years, there had been a gradual increase in the percentage of computer ownership among the general population. This depicts the growth and demand of new age technologies among the general population over the years. Two years after 2006, in the year 2008, this percentage rose to around 70% and by the end of 2010, the percentage of the population possessing a computer was more than 75%.

Now, talking about the second graph, it can be distinctly concluded that the use of computers has increased along with an increase in the level of education. This is because the higher levels of education need more new age technologies to make the higher complex information more easy to understand. In 2002, students with no high school diploma had a percentage cover of only about 15% in computer ownership , which has drastically increased over the next eight years to reach over 40% in the year 2010. From the graph, an important aspect that can be concluded is that in the case of students still in college , the maximum increase in the percentage of computer ownership from 2002 to 2010 is seen. In case of students with no high school diploma and and high school graduates also, the rise of computer ownership percentage during these 8 years is not much lower than the students with no high school diploma. In the case of bachelor's degree and postgraduate, though there is a rise in percentage , but that rise is lower than the previous three levels of education. In 2002, the percentage cover of computer ownership in bachelor's degree and postgraduate was between 70 - 80%, which during the course of the next 8 years rose to auround 90% in both of the cases.

In conclusion, it can be illustrated from the graph that the rise in demand and use of computers in the lower educational levels has been more than that of the higher educational levels.

The two graphs provided above illustrate the percentage of population showing computer ownership, first according to the general population and second, according to the level of education from the years 2002 to 2010. The first graph clearly depicts the gradual increase in the use of computers by the population from 2002 to 2010 showing an increase in the popularity and use of computers among the population with time. From the second graph, the significant increase in the use and popularity of computers among the lower educational levels can be seen.

As depicted in the first graph, by the year 2002, more than half the population possessed a computer. Over the next eight years, a gradual increase in the percentage of computer ownership can be seen from the graph. By the year 2004, this percentage cover reached to about 60% and by the year 2008, it rose to about 70%. Eventually, by the end of 2010, the percentage cover of population for computer ownership is seen to be around 75%.

Now, discussing the second graph, the most significant increase in the percentage of computer ownership from 2002 to 2010 can be seen in the case of students with no high school diploma , high school graduates and students still enrolled in college. In case of no high school diploma, the increase in this demand rose by more than 25% from 2002 to 2010. In 2002, this percentage cover was about 15% and by the end of 2010, it rose to over 40%. The high school graduates and the college students ( incomplete ) also experienced a similar magnitude of increase in percentage over these eight years. This shows the increase in the demands of computers among the lower education level students. On the other hand, the bachelor's degree and post-graduates didn't experience much increase in the percentage of computer ownership from 2002 to 2010. But individually, their percentage cover in each year was higher than that of the other lower educational levels. The highest percentage cover for computer ownership can be seen in the case of students with postgraduate degrees in the year 2010. This percentage cover is seen to be around 95%.
