Topic: Completing university education is thought by some to be the best way to get a job. On the other hand, other people think getting experience and developing soft skills is more important. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Band 7 IELTS Essay

Having a degree from a reputable university is crucial in today's competitive environment. Those without such a degree or certificate are thought to be ineligible for employment. However, having only theoretical knowledge is insufficient. Everyone should be grounded in reality and familiar with the outside world. Some individuals also believe that gaining experience and honing soft skills are more significant than finishing university. Discussions on both sides will be had in this essay.

Even for entry-level roles, every organisation in the modern world wants educated candidates. Every recruiter's initial impression of a candidate is based on their CV. Typically, professional experience and educational credentials are listed on resumes. As a result, in order to stand out from the competition while pursuing a university education, students frequently enroll in multiple certificate programs. Additionally, having the right information and training is essential for the improvement in the majority of high-paying professions like that of a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. These days, university education gives students theoretical knowledge and sufficient exposure to help with their whole development. We must not lose sight of the importance of work experience when applying for high-profile positions. It is utterly useless to only be aware of theories and notions without having any practical plans for applying them. Work experience is therefore a deciding element when applying for a master's degree, such as an MBA.  Experienced people have clear benefits over others due to their prior work history. In addition, it will take less time and effort for experienced experts to learn and adjust to a new organisation. For new hires, the type of work they are accountable for will act as a learning curve. Soft skills and experience are therefore helpful in any career. If this is offered at the university level, people will be a lot more self-assured and devoted to their work.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Everyone in today’s world wants to earn more money and be at the top. This leads people to opt for institutes that provide good education. It is mandatory to get a certificate to apply for jobs that pay well. On the other hand, some people believe that having soft skills and experience matters the most when it comes to facing the corporate world.

When a candidate takes the degree and gets out of college, they apply for jobs. They are called freshers and the resume is all that they have. The interviewer also checks the resume and theoretical knowledge of the candidate. The student also completes different courses during the course of their education. This creates an impact on the interviewer’s mind. Most companies hire based on the degree and the certificates that a candidate has. Their practical knowledge and skills are not checked. Completing a university education has become so important that without it, you will not be able to apply for a job. So the best way to get a job in today’s world is by completing a university education.

On the other hand, practical knowledge and skills can gain you a position that was never imagined. These skills are an add-on to the university degree. Any and all companies must consider the skills and knowledge of the person before checking their degree. If the candidate has the necessary skills and knowledge without having a degree, it will not affect the workflow. The candidate is aware of the process and will be able to fit in and work accordingly. Degrees, in my opinion, do not fit this situation. They are just an assurance to check whether the candidate has attempted university studies.

Any company should be checking if the candidate has the required skill and knowledge rather than education. If the candidate is able to pass the interview with knowledge, it should be good enough.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

It is true that the majority of the population globally believes that getting a university degree is the key to improving career prospects. However, I deny this statement. I would like to mention that work experience and interpersonal skills have a key role to play in career development. Thus, in my opinion, experience and degree equally matter in the career development of an individual.
Experience and soft skills certainly matter in shaping the career of an individual. It is evident in today’s work culture.

An increased number of employees are hiring individuals that are able to portray the existence of a previous work experience in relevant sectors. The reason behind this is, hiring experienced employees is an efficient way to minimize employee training expenses. Soft skills have been increasingly crucial in recent years. The days of employees completing duties on their own are long gone. They now necessitate collaboration. Businesses also operate from many sites throughout the world in this age of globalization. In this case, an employee's interpersonal skills are required to speak with a customer or client who is located on the other side of the world. Experience and soft skills, on the other hand, will not be sufficient. Jobs have gotten increasingly sophisticated in recent years, and performing them without proper knowledge and training is no longer conceivable. A doctor or an advocate, for example, cannot practise without first earning a degree in medicine or law. This group includes the majority of high-paying employment. Only those who have completed five or six years of university are eligible to apply. Furthermore, universities currently convey far more than theoretical information. Workshops are held to provide students with hands-on experience. Students benefit from a university education since it allows them to communicate with others and strengthen their communication abilities.
To summarise, experience is unquestionably valuable, and in some fields, it is required. Experience, on the other hand, will not, in my opinion, aid a person. In fact, in an age when most professions need specialized expertise, most businesses would pass on hiring someone without a college diploma.
