The Idiom “Monkey Business” basically originated from an ancestor word “monkeyshine”. A rough calculation says that this word was initially used around the 18th century, some say it was around 1832. The initial word “monkeyshine” meant dishonesty. We get to learn about this idiom from Jim Crow’s song where he mocks African slaves.
