Question 1. What type of clothes do you like to wear?

Answer: I look at clothes more as a necessity than a luxury item and spend accordingly. I mainly like to wear clothes which are comfortable. I believe that one should dress in a way that makes them feel confident in their own skin. I usually buy oversized clothes so that there is enough space for air circulation. Breathable clothes help you to function properly in a stressful environment and since I’m a working woman who is juggling lots of work, I prefer track pants and t-shirts. In my opinion, they are the most versatile kind of attire which you can wear to any occasion and I love how much this combination of clothes is in sync with my personality. I like wearing shorts and tank tops during summers & in winters, I prefer wearing baggy jackets and track pants.

Vocabulary:

Luxury: something which is elegant and classy but usually is very costly.
Juggling: handling many things at one go
Versatile: something who is very flexible and can accommodate oneself into various environments and activities

Question 2. What kind of clothes do people in your country wear?

Answer: In India, people mostly wear traditional Indian clothes which include saree, Kurti with dupatta for women, and dhoti for men. People in the urban areas mostly wear casual western clothes like shirts, t-shirts, tops, jeans, and trousers. People wear ethnic clothes for festivals and special occasions. Since I live in the tropical region where we mostly have high summer temperatures, we prefer light cotton clothes. Also, people wear light-colored clothes in my country as it absorbs less heat. There are also various regional ethnic attires that people belonging to those particular areas wear.

Vocabulary:

Ethnic: relating to a particular group and what they have in common.
Traditional: something which is around for a long time

Question 3. How important is fashion to you?

Answer: I do not attach too much importance to Fashion. Yes, I do follow some trends which I feel will make a good comfortable attire, otherwise, I’m not over the top about Fashion. I purchase clothes as a necessary item rather than a luxury purchase, so I’m mostly on a budget and I feel I would rather spend the money I earn on other important things. I also do not judge a book by its cover, meaning I do not judge people on the basis of what they wear or whether they purchase from high-end brands. For me, it’s mostly about how well you can carry yourself in whatever you’re wearing. Also, longevity is important for me, as I like wearing the same set of clothes or rather I have a limited set of clothes so I usually buy clothes which would last rather than being a fashion statement.

Vocabulary:

Attire: garments; a rather formal term for clothing
Longevity: something that would last for a good amount of time

Question 4. What kind of clothes do you dislike?

Answer: I usually do not have an extreme preference when it comes to clothes. But there are certain clothes I dislike because it makes me feel uncomfortable. Body-hugging dresses which many wear to look skinny or to fit into the conventional beauty standards is something I’ve always disliked. There are occasions when I have to wear such dresses but I’ve never felt comfortable in them, rather it suffocates me and also when I’m in a dress there are only certain postures in which I can sit which makes me rather uneasy. Hence, I avoid wearing such clothes. I also do not like bright colors that hit the eyes as I find them too flashy and since I’m a very calm, easy-going, lowkey person, I prefer light-colored clothes.

Vocabulary:

Conventional: something which is generally done or believed without much questioning.
Suffocate: the feeling when someone is unable to breathe properly, to feel trapped.

Question 5. Do you think people behave differently in different kinds of clothes?

Answer: Yes, I’ve observed that people behave differently in different kinds of clothes because every attire indicates a certain setting or environment. Therefore, we often dress accordingly to be in sync with the setting. For instance, in festivals where people go to celebrate, they wear colorful flashy clothes to indicate that they are happy and behave informally. Now in the work setting, people wear formal attire to give out the vibe that they’re serious and responsible. They also behave professionally in formal attire. Attires dictate behavior and attitude. Every person behaves differently and more relaxed once they’re out of their formal clothes and back to casual home clothes. Hence, wear clothes in which you can express yourself confidently and I feel it is important to know where to wear what or else one can feel out of place.

Vocabulary:

Dictate: to state or indicate a particular thing
Casual: something which is relaxing, easy, and makes one feel free

Question 6. What kind of clothes do people wear to work in your country?

Answer: People in my country mostly wear western or Indian formals to work. Men usually wear formal shirts and trousers in a work setting. Women wear formal tops or shirts with formal skirts or trousers and they also wear Kurti or Indian suits to work as it is seen as a formal attire suitable for the work environment. With the modern work environment, where people are looking for a more relaxed environment, many new companies are trying to do away with formal attire and are asking employees to wear smart casual clothes to work so that they can feel relaxed and be more productive. This is a recent trend in my country. There are also many companies which have uniforms which everyone has to wear to work.

Vocabulary:

Attire: to clothe in fancy or rich garments
Productive: that makes or grows something, especially in large quantities
