Band 8 IELTS Answer

The above given table depicts the data regarding the number of children born to women aged 40-44 years in Australia through the years 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2006.

In the year 1981, more women had either three or four children. In 1986 and 1996, the number of women with four children significantly dwindled, it went from 27% in 1981 to 18.9% in 1986 and 13.1% in 1996. But no significant changes were seen regarding women with four children. By the time 2006 rolled around only 11% of women had four children. While the number of women with three children did decline, it wasn’t drastic.

The percentage of women that had no children at all when they were aged between 40-44 years has seen a steady rise between 1981 and 2006. Meanwhile women that had only one child at that age saw a rise too moving from 1981 to 2006. The rate of increase in both these numbers has been more or less the same.

Highest percentage of women aged between 40-44 years were having two children in 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2006. In fact, the percentage of women having two children saw an incremental rise in percentage starting from 1981 to 2006. Where only 29% women were having two children in 1981 this figure rose to 38.3% in 2006.

Band 7.5 IELTS Answer

The given table displays data on the number of children born to women aged between 40 to 44 years in Australia. The data records these births in 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2006.

In the year 1981, the highest percentage of women at 29% had two children born to them. While the percentage of women with one child remained the lowest for the year standing at 7.6%. Women with either or four children stood at approximately 27% each in 1981.

All categories saw a rise in 1996 when compared to figures from 1986. The percentage of women that had no children in 1986 was 9.7% and it stood at 12.8% in 1996. Similarly, women with one child in 1986 stood at 8.7% which increased to 11.3% in 1996. 27% women had three children in 1986 while 18.9% women had four children in the same year. This percentage declined in 1996 with 13.1% women having four children and 24.6% women having three children. Once again, the highest percentage of women had two children in both years standing at 35.6% and 38.2% respectively.

In 2006, while the number of women having four children declined compared to previous years, the number of women with no children increased. But the highest percentage was still occupied by women having two children while they were aged between 40-44 years. The percentage of women having one child saw a rise standing at 13.2% while the percentage of women with three children fell standing at 21.5%.

The table shows the number of children born to women aged 40-44 years in Australia in 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2006.

In 1981, more women aged between 40-44 years were likely to have four children as compared to all the other years as the percentage declined. Similarly, in 1981 lesser women were likely to have no children as compared to other years as the percentage steadily rose.

The highest percentage of women with two children was in 2006 standing at 38.3% while the lowest was in 1981 standing at 29%. The percentage of women with two children saw a steady rise as the numbers stood at 35.6% and 38.2% in 1986 and 1996 respectively.

Another trend that can be noticed from the given data is that from 1981 to 2006 women aged 40-44 years were less inclined to have four children. Similarly, women in this period became more inclined towards having no children while they were aged between 40-44 years. But it is to be that in every year, the highest population percentage was occupied by women who had two children.
