Band 6.5 Essay

The graph shows the availability of water and the degree of its cleanliness in Australia and South-east Asia between 1990 and 2010.

The majority of Australians have access to water, and their water is significantly more hygienic than that of SE Asia.

In 1990, the first chart shows that 80% of Australians had access to water, compared to just over a third of South-east Asians who had adequate access. Nearly all of Australia's population can have water after 20 years, and a sizable percentage of Asians 78% had supply of water. In Australia, the supply percentile increased by almost a fifth, while in South East Asia it increased by twice as much.

Secondly, the purity of Australian water is almost 70%, which is 30% higher than that of Asia in 1990. Within 20 years, there was gradual improvement in cleanliness of the Australian water supply by more than 10%. In contrast, South-east Asia reached its highest distribution level but was unable to maintain its hygiene, which caused it to slightly lower its degree. In conclusion, Australia had a good improvement in both during the years. But South-east Asia had a decline in quality over the years.

Band 7.5 Essay

The first bar chart shows how much water is provided to people, and the second bar chart shows how clean the water is on average in two distinct places between 1990 and 2010.

It is obvious that South East Asia and Australia both saw increases in the percentage of water supplied over the corresponding time periods, but Australia's water was cleaner overall.

According to the bar graph, Australia doubled South East Asia's water supply in 1990. They had 80% and roughly 40% respectively. In contrast, over a ten-year period, the gap shrunk by about 20%, reaching almost 100% for Australia and roughly 80% for South East Asia.

According to the second bar chart, Australia's water quality percentage was 70% in 1990 while it was only 40% in South East Asia. Australia's water cleanliness level increased significantly in 2010 to over 80%. Meanwhile South East Asia's water cleanliness level decreased slightly to 35%. Finally, Australia made significant progress in both over the years. However, South-east Asia's quality has declined over time.

Band 8 Essay

The graphs demonstrate changes in water availability and quality for Australia and South-East Asia between 1990 and 2010.

With the exception of Asia's water quality, which actually declined a little over the course of the 20 years, all ratios showed improvement. In addition Australia supplied water to a significantly higher percentage of its population in both years, and in a much purer form. However, Asia can take some comfort in the fact that their supply increased enough to respectfully approach that of its southern neighbor. But their cleanliness decreased in the end.

In Australia, 80% of the country had access to water in 1990. This had increased to 97% two decades later, which is as close to full delivery as one would think was feasible for a country of this size. Quality also increased from 70% to 85%, resulting in a commendable dual success in this crucial area of public works.

Moving on to South-East Asia, capacity increased significantly, rising from 35% to 75% of the population. However, the quality dropped from 40% to 35%, somewhat undermining the progress made in this region's ability to supply this essential good. In conclusion, Australia has made significant progress in both areas over the years. However, South-east Asia's quality has declined over time but the quantity has increased.
