Topic: Research indicates that the characteristics we are born with have much more influence on our personality and development than any experiences we may have in our life. Which do you consider to be the major influence?

Model Answer 1

It is a fact that each and everyone comes to this earth with unique hereditary characteristics. Some features are passed from generation to generation while others are newly adapted. However, these inborn traits are subject to change. For example, some people are easy-going from birth, but with time, they may change due to the experiences of their life and struggles they face. This is observed in most cases. Similarly, short-tempered and narrow-minded people might change their views in the course of life. An introvert person might change into an extrovert person due to the effect of the surroundings and extrovert persons around him.

The personalities of a person might keep changing with age and time. Surroundings play a very major role. An individual learns a lot from the surroundings and experiences incidents that change their outlook towards life. An accident or a life threatening incident may affect a person’s life in a way that their perspective towards life will change forever. Thus, the surrounding environment has the ability to alter the inborn traits in an individual.

Genetic characteristics do affect the identity of an individual to a certain extent. However, the surroundings and life experience brings maturity in a person and changes many characteristics which were inherited during birth. Life experiences play an indispensable role in a person’s life and have major consequences on the personality development and character-building than the innate characteristics.

Model Answer 2

It is a very well-known fact that a human is born with certain characteristics that are shared with their parents and even predecessors. Some characters and attributes are genetically developed within a newborn. It is also believed that these genetic attributes determine a person’s nature. In my opinion, the upbringing of a person is more influential in the formation of an individual’s character. We often see that the characteristics of the child are somewhat similar to the parents. This happens due to the fact that the child spends a lot of time with their parents and inherits those character traits during the upbringing. The parents teach the child to grow up in a certain way which influences their characteristics.

The family members who are closest to us during our childhood have a great impact on us. A child might have traits of character belonging to their parents. However, if the child is brought up by a different family member, we can also see the traces of values provided by that family member. Adding to this, an individual has multiple influences in their lives. A person might not know that their character is influenced by small incidents of life. The fundamental nature of humans allows the adoption of the traits that we like. Qualities tend to evolve over time. In some cases these traits are entirely erased from a person’s mind resulting in different characters throughout their life.

Model Answer 3

Many scientists believe that genetic characteristics have more influence on the personality as compared to experiences in their lives. Genetics have a certain effect on characters, but life experiences are more significant. It is true that every human is unique. This uniqueness has not come from birth but from the experiences of life. Hence, a lot of people believe that life experiences influence more than genetic characters. Work experiences, education, and family conditions have a profound impact on the character of a person.

For instance, somebody might be born in a joint family getting the characters and mentality of a joint family. The person will slowly learn how to live with many people, and accept others as family . Another example could be a man being positive in nature but spending time with negative people; thus, turning just one of them. Moreover, life experiences, whether positive or negative, shape us as individuals and allow us to deal with different people differently. I do agree with the fact that generic characters might affect our life in a very small quantity, however it is not the only thing that shapes our future. Life experiences take the upper hand here. We grow into the person that is being shaped by our surroundings. Hence, we can conclude that a bad experience in life can shape us into a different person than the person before.
