Topic: Carrying Things

  1. What will you carry when you go out?

There are many things that I would consider important whenever I am stepping out of the house. The most crucial thing in a pandemic stricken world is a mask and sanitizer to protect myself from the infection so, at least two masks and a bottle of sanitizer are must-haves in my bag. I am an introverted person so, I usually don't indulge in conversations with strangers on the way to my destination and to make my journey less boring, I always carry bluetooth headphones with me, the way passes easily while listening to my favorite songs. I believe that it is very important to avoid street food and junk food especially in this covid era when you are outside, so I always keep a bottle of water to prevent dehydration and a protein bar with me to satiate my hunger. Another important thing that I always carry is a pair of sunglasses to cut down on sun glare as it is very harmful for the eyes and an umbrella during the monsoon season because it is very difficult to predict the weather during those times. There are some other minor things that I consider essential while going out like a small bottle of Aloe vera gel, lip balm, cleansing wipes, mirror and a comb. These items make sure that my skin stays in a good condition and also make me look presentable. Then comes the other things which I believe everyone keeps with them, for example: mobile phone, charger, wallet and a handkerchief. Earlier, it was difficult to carry so many things while going outside but now, I have organized everything in different bags like minor things in wallets and clutches, skincare items in hand bags and snacks and other items in my backpack. It has made traveling easy and comfortable.

  1. Do you ever forget to bring things?

Yes, there are many such instances when I forgot my stuff at home so, I admit I am quite a forgetful person. There was a time when I forgot to bring my wallet and realized it after having lunch at a cafe and I had to call my friends to come for the rescue, this is such a dreadful memory that I never wanna relive. I am not usually very inactive or forgetful but whenever I am in a hurry or in emergency situations, I always forget to carry important items while going out. I had to endure several embarrassing moments due to this habit like last Saturday.

I was at my friend's place and I had to leave urgently because there was some leakage problem in my balcony and my parents sent some people to repair it. I went to my house and when I put my hands in the purse to get the key, the key was not there. I forgot to bring it from my friend's place. Then I had to wait along with the repairman for around 1 hour and after that, my friend came and I got the keys to my house. This was very embarrassing and I became more cautious about bringing my things after this incident. There have been a few occasions when I left the house without my mobile phone and it was such a nuisance finding out that you don't have your phone with you when you have to urgently call someone.

Vocabulary:

Dreadful: (adjective) extremely bad or serious.
Endure: (verb) to suffer something unpleasant or difficult.
Cautious: (adjective) careful to avoid problems or danger.

  1. Will you bring different things in the daytime or at night?

Yes, because the different times of the day demand different items. I always bring things according to the time of the day like, for example, in the daytime when it's really sunny, I carry a pair of sunglasses with me to protect my eyes from the UV rays of the sun and at night, when it is really cold, it is important to bring a light jacket or a shawl to insulate yourself from the cold. During daytime, a bottle of water also comes in handy to prevent dehydration. I also carry Sunscreen, spf lip balm and a Sun hat with me while going outside on a sunny day because bad sunburns and cracked lips can be debilitating if proper attention is not paid to these things. At night, I always keep a flashlight, warm clothes, bottled water and some snacks with me while stepping out of my house. I also ensure that I have a first aid kit with me for unpredictable medical emergencies. I always bring my wallet whether it is daytime or night and along with cash, I keep my debit card and driving license with me for safety purposes. If I am going on an overnight trip, I carry a few essential things like fresh clothes, toiletries, shoes, accessories and snacks and try to pack these things in a small, lightweight and easy to carry bag. A Day Trip is even more exhilarating and convenient as you don't have to carry many items with you. During a day trip, I carry hats, sunglasses, skincare items, clothes and a comfortable pair of shoes along with the necessary items like phone, charger and cash.
