Band 7 IELTS Essay

Capital Punishment can be identified as one of the most debated kind of punishment for people who commit gruesome crimes even in historical references. Intellectuals and philosophers have been constantly arguing in support or against the benefit of capital punishment. There are supporters of capital punishment who argue that it people are prevented from gruesome crimes. On the other hand, many others feel that capital punishment has proved to be as a deterrent in the society. The supporters essentially believe that capital punishment has the ability to deter people from committing heinous crimes like murders. From the point of view of justice and law and order, capital punishment is regarded by supporters as a logical pubishment for murder. Moreover, these supporters view this punishment as a way of serving justice to the victim’s family. Hence, an opportunity to take vengeance of the murder of their loved ones.

However, there are critics of capital punishment as well who view it as an immoral act. The critics opine that killing is an act which is condemned in the society. The right of the government and the judiciary to kill exclusively on grounds of the committed crime creates moral dilemmas. Capital punishment of the criminals regardless of the method of punishment has failed to control crimes in many countries. In reality there is hardly any proof of capital puishment serving as a tool to deter criminal acts or murder cases. Instance can be taken from Scandinavian countries where capital punishment has been abolished and now accounts for one of the least criminal cases in the world. On the other hand, while capital punishment is served in the developed nation of the USA, numeorus murder cases are found in the country. Hence, in my opinion, capital punishment has failed to serve its purpose in terms of reducing crimes from the society. However, considering it promoted more violence with killings.

Band 6.5 IELTS Essay

Capital Punishment can be identified as one of the most debated kind of punishment for people who commit gruesome crimes. Even historical evidences include references of capital punishment which have been debated about from time-to-time by intellectuals and phiosophers. There are supporters of capital punishment argue capital punishment is the way through which society can diminish crimes like murder. The supporters believe that with capital punishment the murders and heinous criminals can be induced with a punishment. This discourages people from committing crimes in future. They also view this type of punishment as a way of giving justice to the victim and its family. It may be identified that the main purpose of capital punishment is to ensure law and order in the society. The supporters consider it necessary for eliminating social evils.

On the other hand, critics of the capital punishment are of the view that such an immoral act does not serve as a deterrent in a country with heinous crimes all around. The critics view capital punishment as a hypocrisy of the government that implements the law in the society. Accordingly, while society, law and order condemns people from killing, they consider the exclusive rights of the government to kill someone is also fraudulent. Moroever, it is believed that contrary to the idea of capital punishment which is supoosed to decrease crimes in society did not happen practically. In reality there is hardly any proof of capital puishment serving as a tool to deter criminal acts or murder cases. This is because capital punishment might end the life of the criminal in different ways. However, it has not been able to eliminate the root causes of the criminal activities. Further, with such violent outcomes, mostly it tends to deliver a message and promote violent behaviours in the society. However, I also believe that the abolishment of the capital punishment might not prove to be beneficial in reducing crime rates. The requisite is to find the root causes and try to eliminate or reduce them to decrease criminal activities. Hence, capital punishment or else, the latter is inevitable.

Band 8 IELTS Essay

In recent years capital punishment has been considered to a controversial issue. It has been considered that execution is crucial for the purpose of deterring criminal activities. As supporters of capital punishment argue that society need to follow certain rules and regulations whereby criminal activities can be condemned in the society. In order to reduce violence through crims, capital punishment is considered to be extremely crucial. The supporters of capital punishment argue that it is essential to stem the citizens of a country to feel they are safe and secure. With criminal activities like murder or rape, the public ends to panic and use of capital punihsment is a way to deter the society from such panics against crimes. This has hence been considered an effective way of reducing crime rates and establishing law and order.

On the other hand, critics of the capital punishment also exist who debate the supporters of the capital punishment stayin it as immoral. The need of the government and the law is to reduce criminal and violent activities in society. The critics henceforth identify that retaliation with violence by the government and the law is a contradictory act to the idea of reducing violence. Moroever, itcriminal activities based on statistics have hardly decreased with the implementation of capital punishment. It can be seen from the USA which still has public engaging un murderous crimes. However, capital punishment although ensures to reduce criminal activities, it deterred in identifying any root cause and in solving them. While it does not eliminate or reduce crimes, it is considered to be promoting acts of violence even further. However, I also believe that the abolishment of the capital punishment might not prove to be beneficial in reducing crime rates. Thus, the topic is quite controversial and debatable although I would opine that unless the root causes of the crimes. These are identified and eliminated, capital punishment might not prove to be effective.
