Businesses Also Have Social Responsibility IELTS Writing Task 2

As a business person, one is obliged to fulfill his social responsibility towards his employees, his customers, his society, and the world environment. While doing a business, one has to keep in focus that the design of their products and services must comply with the customer's needs and demands and may not cause any damage and harm to the physical and sentimental well-being of the person. Besides, customers, society also matters, businesses must make sure that their products and services must not cause any damage and harm to humans, and by humans, the animals are also counted. Social responsibility towards the climate is of utmost importance. The increasing release of harmful gases is causing the upscale of global warming which in turn affects climate change a lot. Besides, society and the world, the other most important social responsibility of a business person is his responsibility towards his employees, his labors. With the aim of expanding the business reach, the responsibility towards the workforce should not be missed out. Obliging to various labor laws and protocols like defined work hours, minimum wages, paid leaves, maternity leaves, etc., all these are a part of the social responsibility of a business.

It is quite obvious that with financial responsibility comes social responsibility in business. In today’s world, some businesses are quite active in fulfilling this social responsibility towards their customers, society, and the environment as a whole. But now, it has become quite essential that all the businesses must come together and take an initiative in fulfilling their social responsibility.

The entire population is now dependent on business goods and services from even a tiny needle to even fresh and clean oxygen these days. This dependency has made it even more essential for business enterprises to abide by their social responsibility while filling their pockets with profit. A business enterprise must fulfill its social responsibility towards its customers by providing safe, harmless, healthy, and pure goods and services with honesty and integrity. Towards a society, business must fulfill their social responsibility by eradicating poverty, income inequality, more inclusion of the untouched and remote areas, bringing the entire population on the same page. Besides, every business enterprise must keep in mind the environmental effects while manufacturing and bringing out any new product and services. With the increasing global warming, it is the responsibility of these business enterprises to work in a more environmentally friendly manner.

There are many business enterprises that are constantly making efforts in fulfilling their social responsibility by working in an environmentally friendly manner. There are even many enterprises that are making efforts in increasing literacy among the masses, providing training to produce more skilled laborers, launching more and more job opportunities to eradicate poverty. Some business enterprises also abide by their responsibility towards their workforce by providing a clean and safe work environment, minimum wage assurance, paid leaves, defined work hours, special incentives, and many more. Besides, making profits and doing business expansion, they are also making investments to fulfill their social responsibility.

So, it is true that with business comes social responsibility and the business altogether functions as a socio-economic function of the society. This socio-economic unit needs to find a correct balance between its enterprise responsibility and social responsibility. These business communities as a whole need to function as a forerunner of the social and economic development of society.

The economic role and social responsibility are connected to each other. Business enterprises are seen as role models and important aspects of the country when it comes to improving the economic conditions of the country. Take an example, by making more profits and more investments, a business indirectly contribute to the GDP of the country, the product, and services launched by them helps the society to function better. With technological advancement, life has started to become easier these days. By providing better facilities to the masses, the demand for the same products and services increases, which ultimately needs an increase in supplies. To increase the supply chain, more workforce is required, which leads to more job opportunities, and this lesser the unemployment rates. The decreasing unemployment rate helps in eradicating poverty, which ultimately leads to a welfare state. Besides, some business enterprises also pay great attention to the changing climate, environment, and biodiversity. Business functioning has become more environmentally friendly with the proper waste management system, reducing harmful gas emissions, following the 3R principle of reducing, reuse, and recycle, using more environmentally friendly techniques to protect the environment. In all these senses the businesses are abiding by their social responsibility well. But, in contrast, there are some enterprises that are only involved in profit-making techniques without fulfilling their responsibility towards their society. By using harmful and cheap quality inputs and harmful and polluting chemicals, radiation techniques, they are damaging the fundamental principle of business ethics.

So, it is true that businesses have social responsibilities. It is high time for the profit earning enterprises to understand their responsibility and take initiative in this direction. It is equally important for every business enterprise of the world to fulfill their social responsibility and create a just and welfare society for the masses to live.
