Boats - IELTS Speaking Sample Answer

Q 1: If someone gifted you a boat, what would you do?

Answer: I’ll begin by thanking the individuals and expressing my gratitude towards them. Buying a boat is no easy task. It is only fitting that I express my gratitude for their time, money, and effort in obtaining this enormous gift. Since I reside offshore, having a boat and heading out into the water at a calm hour in the morning to partake in some fishing is quite convenient for me.

Vocabulary:

  • Offshore: A place near the shore or at a small distance from the sea.
  • partake: to get involved with something

Q 2: Do you like traveling by boat?

Answer. It is determined by the type of boat I’m being given. Motorboats wouldn't be a good choice for me because I dislike acceleration. Being a passenger in a rowboat or canoe would be enjoyable for me because I enjoy the soothing sound of the water. It's so relaxing to even imagine yourself sitting on a rowboat in the middle of a calm sea.

Vocabulary:

  • rowboat: a small boat propelled by the use of oars
  • Canoe: canoe is a lightweight narrow water vessel, typically pointed at both ends and open on top

Q 3: Is boating common at the place you live?

Answer. Despite the fact that I live near the water, unless you are a fisherman, boating is not a common activity here. The only individuals that venture out to sea are those who are part of the fishing community. The inclusion of boats in tourism would, however, be quite welcome. So we can also venture into the ocean for those of us who want a taste of the sea.

Q 4. Is it common in your country to own a boat?

Answer. No, if we examine the populace of the nation as a whole. Even though it is a peninsula with a lengthy coastline, the landlocked regions are not insignificant. I believe it is safe to state that boat ownership is more common among members of the fishing community and those working on commercial vessels than among the general public. Therefore, the answer is no because owning a boat is not particularly common among the locals.

Vocabulary:

  • peninsula: a portion of land nearly surrounded by water and connected with a larger body by an isthmus
  • coastline: a narrow strip of land that borders the sea along a continent or an island
  • insignificant: to lack importance

Q 5. Have you ever thought of owning a boat?

Answer. I did when I was younger because I used to think about how lovely it would be to own my own yacht because I lived near the seaside. However, not anymore because I reside in a city and hardly ever leave this location, making the purchase of one impractical. But who knows, maybe I'll get one after I retire someday.

Q 6. Do you prefer traveling by boat or car?

Answer. I enjoy travelling by boat, but I can't handle it for lengthy periods of time because I get motion sickness. Even if the rocking of a boat is initially quite comforting, I can't keep the food down if it goes on for too long, therefore I must admit that I would prefer the automobile for extended trips.

Vocabulary:

  • motion sickness: a disease that occurs when one travels for longer hours than usual

Q 7. If you had your own boat, how would you decorate it?

Answer. There are so many things I would like to do since I think I have a good sense of aesthetics. A pastel collection or even some extremely dark colours will look great against an evening setting. However, a white coat embellished with tiny details would also be lovely.

Vocabulary:

  • embellished: to make something more attractive than earlier

Q 8. How would you purchase a boat, online or offline?

Answer. I do appreciate how convenient online buying is. I would, however, choose to go to the business in person to make a significant purchase like a boat. Seeing the actual item in person would be preferable and more practical so you are certain of what you are purchasing. Even while it doesn't happen all the time, it does happen occasionally when ordering online. Therefore, I believe purchasing it in person would be sensible.

Q 9. Name a place you have travelled by boat?

Answer. I've travelled by boat on numerous occasions, but if I had to pick just one, I'd say going to the next town. There is a river that runs between the two locations; its waters are calm, and the bridge that spans it is quite small. Therefore, the majority of people decide to cross by boat.

Q 10. Can you drive a boat?

Answer. Sadly, I still don't know how to operate a boat. In light of how prevalent boating is in the neighbourhood, I believe it would be a helpful skill. I regret to say that I have never driven. But if time permits, I'd like to learn afterwards.
