Birds - IELTS Speaking Sample Answer

IELTS Speaking Part 1 contains questions related to your personal life and experience. IELTS Speaking test is one of the other major tests which has to be cracked in order to qualify for the examination. This particular IELTS speaking sample asks you questions about Birds and your experience with them. This sample answer also comprises a few words which you may use to increase your vocabulary and get an edge above the other aspirants. Topic: Birds

Question 1. How do you feel about birds? Or Do you like birds?

Answer: I love all the animals and birds, I have to say, I am a huge animal lover. In my opinion, they are one of the most beautiful creations of God. They add beauty, life, and diversity to nature. Their sweet chirping noise is often melody to the ears, they have stunning-colored feathers and in different patterns. Their colorful tails and feathers make them look like rainbows flying in the sky. As vague as it might sound, but birds are intelligent creatures, they are able to comprehend and introspect any situation quickly, for example, they can always sense upcoming earthquakes, and rain by the peacock.

Vocabulary:

Creations

Meaning: This refers to any object made by someone.
Example: Taj mahal is one of the most beautiful seven man made creations worldwide.

Diversity

Meaning: This means different types of an object or subject
Example: India is enriched with diverse cultures nationwide, ranging from the Kashmiri shawls and Lohri of North India to Silk sarees and Pongal of South India.

Chirping

Meaning: The noise made by the birds through their beaks, often associated with their callings.
Example: The chirping of the birds, early in the morning is music to my ears.

Melody

Meaning: Something very soft and rhythmic to the ears, pleasant to hear
Example: Lata Mangeshkar has a melodious voice.

Vague

Meaning: Something not of the firm base, something which can be nullified or rejected easily
Example: She always uses vague explanations to justify her absence in the office.

Stunning

Meaning: Something breathtaking, very beautiful
Example: She looked stunning in the white dress.

Intelligent

Meaning: This refers to someone smart, well aware, and knowledgeable.
Example: Einstein was a very intelligent scientist.

Question 2. Have you seen many kinds of birds?

Answer: I live in a metropolitan city; therefore, it is tough for me to get a glimpse of different varieties of birds. However, we have a bird sanctuary near our city, the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary and every year several birds migrate from different countries to the sanctuary. So, there are exotic birds like pelicans, cranes, grey parrots, black lory, kingfishers, cockatiel, white peacocks, finch, etc. And I have visited the National zoological park, it is having its own bird section filled with 61 species of birds like hornbill, peafowl, white peafowl, spoonbill, vultures, cockatoo, emu, cockatiel, pheasant, macaw, etc.

Vocabulary:

Exotic

Meaning: Something which has originated in the foreign land
Example: The Arabian cuisine is exotic in its flavors

Migrate

Meaning: This refers to moving from one place to another by traveling a very long distance
Example: The American pelicans tend to migrate from there to different countries before the commencement of winters there.

Glimpse

Meaning: To see for a short span of time
Example: She was running so fast that the judges just caught a glimpse of her.

Metropolitan

Meaning: This refers to explaining a very large city
Example: Delhi, Calcutta, Mumbai, Chennai, are a few metropolitan cities in India.

Question 3. How do people in your country feel about birds?

Answer: I am from India, where there are a variety of people. Some people are kind enough to offer water to the parching birds by filling the empty pots in scorching heat during the summers. A few people offer them grains and seeds in trays, I have even seen a few people having tiny birdhouses on their terrace for the birds. Certain people tend to keep birds as their pets, most commonly parrots, pigeons, cockatoo, and love birds. Indian mythology also gives significance to the bird crow, and people tend to feed them in remembrance of anyone who has passed away in their family. People in India eat birds as their food too, most commonly the hens, chicken, and also consume their eggs. A few people tend to use them as gaming birds too, generally the pheasants, they make them fight amongst themselves for entertainment. Further, we have peacocks as our national bird, so I would like to conclude by saying, people in India love birds too.

Vocabulary:

Gaming birds

Meaning: Birds used to fight and wrestle in rings for the entertainment of people
Example: Today, we went to see the wrestling between two cocks, the match was packed with viewers.

Conclude

Meaning: To end something, or to give a gist
Example: The conclusion of the movie was, to get successful in life one has to work very hard.

Consume

Meaning: To eat, finish, engulf
Example: He consumed the entire Chocolate cake all by himself.

Scorching heat

Meaning: This refers to extreme, severe, or too much heat; very hot
Example: The sun is emitting scorching heat this year.

Parching

Meaning: This means extremely thirsty
Example: I was parching until Ravi offered me water.

Question 4. Have you seen many different kinds of birds?

Answer: I have a keen interest in bird watching, but as I had earlier mentioned that I live in a metropolitan city, and it is technically filled with buildings, therefore there is not a variety of birds to see. But luckily, the locality where I live is filled with trees, so we often get glimpses of a few birds, nothing very exotic, just the common outdoor and indoor indigenous birds, like pigeons, crows, cuckoo, parrots, peacocks, sparrows, eagles, house sparrows, and rarely a woodpecker. But, I have visited several zoological parks and bird sanctuaries, so yes, I have seen a lot of exotic birds.

Vocabulary:

Indigenous

Meaning: Something which has originated in the same origin land
Example: the peacock is a bird indigenous to India.

Keen Interest

Meaning: To be highly or greatly interested in anything
Example: I have a keen interest to pursue research in the field of cancer.

Zoological park

Meaning: A place where various living animals are kept within enclosures, displayed to the public.
Example: The birds were put on display at the zoological park.
