Topic: The best way to solve the world’s environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Band 8 IELTS Essay
The modern world is concerned about the end of resources like fuel. This is causing environmental problems in the world. Countries over the world are trying to find alternatives and save fuel. Many people have come up with various solutions. Some suggest that increasing the price will reduce environmental problems. In this topic, we will discuss if the increase in the cost of fuel will decrease environmental problems.
The price depends on the interaction between the demand and supply of a product in a market. If we consider that the world is demanding fuel, we should be able to supply that. With the increase in population, the demand for fuel is also increasing. Increasing the fuel price cannot minimize the global demand for fuel. People will have to travel, cook their food, and they will need electricity to run their households. So, the demand is not going to decrease unless there is any other resource or energy which can do the same things. Even if the price of fuel increases significantly, people still cannot decrease the demand for petrol or other fuels at once. Petrol is used in all fields of machinery like manufacturing industries and agricultural purposes. If the price of fuel increases, the economy of the country could suffer multiple consequences.
Now, with the increasing demand for fuel, consumption is also increasing. Overconsumption of fuel causes multiple environmental problems including greenhouse gas emissions. These can be mitigated by reducing the consumption of fuels. I believe the most practical measure is to reduce the demand for resources in daily activities like traveling. People can travel by public transport which will reduce the use of fuels, causing less effect on the environment. They can use bicycles instead of bikes and cars. This is eco-friendly and also keeps a person fit. This can be done only by encouraging people to use lesser fuel. The most sustainable solution to reduce the use of fuel is by taking the advantage of natural sources of energy like air, water, etc. Wind and tidal power in the Netherlands, nuclear power in Japan, and solar power in the United States have all proven their efficiency in energy production. These could be employed all over the world to minimize global dependence on fossil fuels.
Natural sources and inspiring people to use fewer fuels are the only two ways via which the effect on the environment can be decreased.
Band 7 IELTS Essay
We are facing an environmental crisis and it is high time to save the environment. The effects on the environment are mostly due to the use of fuels that emit harmful gasses. These gasses affect the environment in a deadly manner. Hence, many have suggested that the price of fuel be increased so that people stop using fuel. As per statistics and the data of the last 15 years, increasing the price of fuels has not stopped us from using it. The usage has increased along with the price. Hence, increasing the price will not solve the problem, rather it will give birth to various other problems.
Increasing fuel prices will affect the agricultural industry, education industry, and tourism also. This can cause an economic meltdown in the state.
