Band 8 IELTS Essay
In recent decades, people have become accustomed to the idea that they are willing to devote more time of their lives to work, with some continuing to work beyond the statutory retirement age. In fact, as people's life expectancy increases, there are fewer jobs that can guarantee a comfortable retirement, which is why many people choose to enter the workforce much earlier than before. In my opinion, this is a negative development. I agree that it is beneficial for young people to start working at a young age, but it should only be seen as a way to gain experience. Studying and saving for retirement while working is unrealistic and counterproductive. First, most part-time jobs that students can do, such as bartending or tutoring, are highly paid, and certainly not enough to cover retirement benefits. In addition, many high-paying jobs, such as lawyers and doctors, require qualifications, which can take up to six years, and therefore are not available to young people at a young age. On the other hand, modern people are physically strong enough to continue working into their 60s and even 70s. Work keeps people healthy, not just mentally, but physically, which I believe is very important for older people. For example, my grandfather admits that after he retired, he felt too bored and unhealthy, so he set up a workshop near his house and has been working there ever since.
This example also suggests that people shouldn't consider working at a young age to save for retirement. Finally, I understand that there are reasons why young people enter the workforce earlier than their parent's and grandparents' generations, but since working after retirement is a way to extend life expectancy, there is no obligation to work and save money when you are young.
Band 7.5 IELTS Essay
Suppose the average life expectancy of people is increasing and people dedicate their life to their work and get paid for it. Therefore, most people start working at a young age. I believe this trend has a negative impact on people as they have no time to relax and it is difficult for the younger generation to find a job. Secondly, young people also lose focus on their studies. Although gaining experience is beneficial for them, it ruins their study plans. I will explain this in more detail in the next essay. Firstly, the work performance of most people improves as their life cycle shows an upward trend. Therefore, even after reaching the legal retirement age, they do not continue working in a relaxed mood as they have spent most of their time at work to save money and lead a happy life.
Instead of leading a fun-filled life, they are exposed to the stress of working without thinking about their health, which makes them lethargic and weak when the time comes and prevents them from enjoying life to the fullest. However, the youth are still unable to take up jobs as they are still employed, which also affects the employment rate. That is why they prefer to migrate abroad and leave the country for a better future. Like most Asian countries such as Pakistan, adults are leaving their home country due to a lack of employment quotas. On the other hand, there are some positive factors, as it enriches the experience of young people, but during that time, it distracts them from their studies. As a result, they start to do part-time work to earn money, which makes them lose academic stability, and they try to earn money and save it to enjoy later. Working also keeps them healthy, not only physically but also mentally. They become dementia patients because they get bored when they reach retirement age. So it is good to focus on work, but not only to save money.
In summary, I understand that there are advantages and disadvantages to working at an older age, but I think the burden of working at an older age is greater and therefore harmful to both life and the new generation.
Band 7 IELTS Essay
Over the past few decades, the world has evolved and changed significantly in many ways. This has led to improved medical facilities and treatments, and increased life expectancy. This increase in life expectancy has encouraged some people to continue working after retirement and others to start working at a younger age. In my opinion, this has many benefits, which I will analyze in the following paragraphs. First and foremost, it allows older people with experience and talent to serve their communities on a larger scale. To explain in more detail, working after retirement gives the younger generation the opportunity to adapt to the new world of work much faster under the guidance of experienced people. In this way, many beginners can easily become masters and contribute better to the community. Moreover, young people who decide to work at a young age can analyze and get help from people with many years of experience and skills. This allows them to handle complex situations in a feasible way. Thus, the economy is not only supported by the younger generation but also by the older generation of society. Secondly, it helps individuals to start working earlier or continue working after the age of 50 to become independent and financially stable. To make it more clear, the early stage of life and retirement life are considered to be the most crucial periods of life when people need support and assistance to survive. For example, a young student may need financial support and guidance to succeed in life, whereas an elderly person may need money for medical and personal needs. In such situations, even if you are independent as a person, you may find yourself in the shadow of others. Therefore, working in a convincing manner can help you avoid the pressure and burden of bills. This will help you live a happy life without having to put up with an unfortunate situation.
In summary, working from a very young age and even after retirement is not only a way to earn passive income but also the support that individuals deserve for themselves, beneficial for both families and the economy.
