Advantages and Disadvantages of Short-Term Contracts IELTS Writing Task 2 consists of three sample answers provided below. In the past where people used to acquire a job in order to sustain themselves for the rest of their lives, the notion has changed entirely. Many people in the current business environment are employed on short-term contracts with companies that require their expertise. With the pandemic being hit, the world shifted to a domain of digital workplace and work-from-home pattern. Employment opportunities have expanded in both on-site and remote settings. While advantages of short-term contracts for employment can be identified, disadvantages of this type of employment also remain. Focusing on the advantages at first, short-term contracts of employment can be considered to be in abundance in the market as well as lucrative. This implies that short-term employment contracts are more available than long-term ones. It also provides these employees with effectively high pay which allows aspirants to be part of the company. Another advantage can be identified in terms of having a progressive career. Especially for interns through short-term contracts who gain effective experiences from their work. Significantly, with the help of short-term contracts it is possible to enjoy one’s freedom and leisure time quite efficiently. Hence, employees are able to maintain their work-life balance without much hassle. However, there are yet certain disadvantages that can be identified. This includes foremost having an unstable job. The fact the workplace is turning digital and people are enhancing their skills and specialities are a reason for the same. There are both advantages and disadvantages for short-term contracts of employment opted by many, both of which have been explained. Based on the advantages, short-term contracts are highly available in the job market in abundance allowing applicants to try their options. From minimum 3 months to a maximum of 12 months contract, employees are offered with a high range of salaries. Another advantage includes having the opportunity to travel from one place to another based on the type of job. Or even the possibility of working from anywhere in the world on a contract basis. Significantly,short-term contracts provide lucrative offers as well as their potential to provide freedom ensuring higher work-life balance. However, there are certain disadvantages that are included in the short-term contracts. This includes the matter of having an unstable job considering that when the term of contract is complete employees need to find other contracts.
