According To Some People We Have Become More Independent In The Modern World IELTS Writing Task 2

It is wrong to say that in today’s world people are as dependent on each other as they were in the olden days. Life has become more difficult and complex due to the high cost of living. People are dependent on their partners to contribute to fulfill the basic needs of their lives such as household chores, expenses, education, food, etc. This doesn’t mean that the individual is completely dependent on his partner to fulfill his basic needs. As the cost of living in this society increases day by day, so it would be great if the partners take the responsibility together to fulfill their basic needs and support their family and children.

In the modern era, people are trying to extend their life and start going abroad for further studies. This development was not observed in the previous years. So, we can’t compare today’s dependency of people with the people of the olden days. Today people are financially independent which was not possible in the past because of lack of resources. They are trying to make their own decisions in life and making their days enjoyable and full of fun.

So, we can say that in today’s world people are dependent on others but this dependency can’t be compared with the people of olden days. No one can live as an isolated person in this society, everyone is dependent on each other but this dependency doesn’t make people bound to others for fulfilling their basic needs. They are financially independent and can support their basic needs.

People who believe that in today’s world more people are dependent on each other means to say that their needs have increased and they have to interact with many people to fulfill their needs. This can be understood with a simple example: as the PG students or people working outside their hometown are dependent on tiffin services for food, laundry for clothes, maids for cleaning purposes, etc. This doesn’t mean that they are not self- dependent. It is just that due to work load or busy schedule, they are unable to complete their work so they hire some people to reduce the work stress of the household chores. They are educated, broad- minded and self- reliable people who know how to enjoy their life on their own rather than depending on their parents or other people.

In olden days, ladies were dependent on their husbands to fulfill their financial needs and for maintaining the household expenses. But in today’s modern era, they came to know the importance of education and hence, decided to struggle in their life and make themselves self- dependent. This progress in technology has made their life easier and enjoyable. They got the chance to work outside the home and can earn enough to support the comfort of their life. So, gender equality in all areas has made the lives of many people independent and brought a huge change in society.

So, it is true to say that modernization has made people self- reliant, independent and has taught them how to struggle in life to fulfill their needs.

Looking at the olden days, we observed that most of the people in our society were uneducated. They were totally unaware of the benefits of education and they didn’t know how to read and write. They were dependent on the other people of their family or neighbors for completing their work, arranging the legal documents, reading the newspapers or letters received from the other places, etc. They believed that at their old age, their children will take care of them. They were dependent on their children for taking their responsibility. Apart from this, most of the children were dependent on their parents till they complete their higher studies. They were not taught how to live an independent life. Children were totally dependent on their father for financial help and wives were also dependent on their husbands for household expenses and other expenses.

But as the time passes, people get awareness about the importance of education in their life and how to live any independent life. Parents should teach their children from the beginning itself how to become self- dependent as this will make their life more easier and enjoyable.
