  • To whom you did not tell the truth?
  • Why did you not tell the truth?
  • What was the truth?

Model Answer 1

When was it?

I believe that we should stay true to ourselves and our surrounding people. I have always tried to follow this. Sometimes to make someone happy, the truth can be avoided, unless you are hurting someone. I remember one such incident. It was the birthday of my roommate. She was also one of my best friends. That day was her 25th birthday. She is not much of a party person. However, our friends and I decided to surprise her by giving her a special low-key birthday party. It was a little dinner with some of our close friends and family.

To whom you did not tell the truth?

We knew that she would come home at 7 pm. So we had to prepare and decorate the room before that. The guests were also to come directly from the office. I decided to tell her that I am not at home, I will be late by an hour and the key is with me. This way she won't be able to enter the house and we will get time for preparation. My friend was extremely angry and unhappy with the pleasurable situation on her birthday. Who wants to stay in the office or wait in a random place after a hectic office day and that too on her birthday which is supposed to be a special day?

Why did you not tell the truth?

I had no other options other than making weird excuses for her to wait outside as we continued to organize the event. She was scornfully impatient and had prepared it all to take me to task for making her birthday evening a waste. After an hour, when all the preparations were done and our other friends had arrived, we decided to call her in.

What was the truth?

As I opened the door, she was all ready to rebuke me when the rest of the company came to action and it ended up to be a successful surprise altogether. These are some of the little occasions where lying can be taken into consideration as it is not harming the feelings of the other person, in fact, it is necessary to bring a smile to the face of your loved one on her special day.

Model Answer 2

When is it?

Telling a lie does affect one's morality. It is not my cup of tea but something it is necessary to take the step to save certain sentiments of the other person who is close to my heart. My friend and I sat together for the entrance exam of our dream college. She had been my close friend since childhood and a distant relative too, thus it was very exciting for us to move to a city together and start a whole new college life, having one another by our side. We took full-fledged preparation for the exam together- sharing notes, taking mock tests and interviews besides planning for everything that we are going to experience together after our 12th.

To whom did you not tell the truth?

We confidently gave the examination and desperately waited for the results to come out. Finally, D-day arrived and I came to know about the results from another friend. I thought about surprising my friend with the result as I was confident that we both are going to crack it.

Why did you not tell the truth?

I tried to hide it by lying to her for many days until she found out herself. I could never say that I knew the result before her as that would have shattered all her desires for me. Either way, she came to know the truth by herself which is better than receiving the truth from me.

What was the truth?

I was utterly shocked to find out that it was only me who cleared the examination and not my friend. I didn't know if I was supposed to be sad or happy. When my friend asked about any notice of the result, I couldn't tell her that I cleared the exam and she didn't. She was definitely heartbroken but proceeded without me in her career with the support of her parents. We may not have walked the same career path but that didn’t affect our friendship whatsoever. This was one of the instances where I was a coward and couldn’t tell the truth because I knew how much it would hurt my dear one.

Model Answer 3

When was it?

Schooldays always bring conflict between the right and the wrong things. We have moral conflicts and difficulty understanding whether we should follow our friends or parents. Something like that happened to me once which made me understand that lying can have consequences that are not always good. I was in my 10th standard when I along with my friends decided to bunk class and visit a movie that was supposed to be the big errand for us, young adults.

To whom did you not tell the truth?

I knew that my parents would never allow me to go to a movie with friends when the board exam was knocking at the door. I knew I had to lie or steal money for the movie tickets. Both were against my morality but I had to do something to make myself available for the plan. Thus, I lied to my parents that we, all the students of our class, had to donate money to an NGO that is associated with the school. The specific amount was mandatory for the students to donate. Though my parents were highly unwilling to donate, I eventually convinced them.

Why did you not tell the truth?

Finally, the day came when we went to watch the movie, enjoyed it, and came back home with happy faces. I was shocked to see my father standing in the doorway, waiting for my return. He asked me where I went and why I lied. He came to know about our adventurous errand from our class teacher who called my parents as she spotted the huge gang being mysteriously absent. The story behind the money that I took with my false story was also disclosed.

What was the truth?

We planned to take the risk of lying to our parents and teachers and were determined to make the event successful. Though it made a day worth remembering with my friends, I also realized that it takes several lies and embarrassments that are not worth it. My parents were embarrassed when the teacher called and we lost a share of the trust that our parents and teachers invested in us.
