Band 7 IELTS Answer

The diagram shows us various stages of converting an animal hide into a finished and market ready leather good. In this topic, we will discuss the whole process which is provided in the image.

We can see that the animal skin or hide is dried at first. To dry the hide, it is hung on a wire in open air. After this, the dried hide is stacked in a large vehicle. It is then transported by large vehicles to the factory for processing. Once it arrives at the factory, the first thing they do is submerge the hide in vats of Lime and water. This is done for washing the dried animal skin. The process of coverting hide into a products starts now. It is then transferred to another vat where it is soaked in lime. Once the washing and soaking are completed, it is transferred to a rolling machine. This helps to flatten the hide for the better use. After flattening, it is submerged in a liquid called tannin. Tannin is a mixture of vegetable matter and water. After the process involvinf tannin is completed, the hide is then taken for polishing. In this process, a small rolling machine is used to roll on the hide which gives the shine. Once the shine comes, the leather is then transported to a different factory via large vehicles. Once the vehicle reaches the factory, the hides are manufactured into leather products. These factories produce products like bags, shoes, balls, belts, etc.

Band 7.5 IELTS Answer

In the above diagram, different stages of transforming a hide into leather goods are shown.

The whole process is demonstrated via images. The first stage involves drying of the animal skin. This is done by hanging the skin on a line in the open air. Once the skin is dried, the skin is transferred to a factory by large vehicles. Once this reaches the factory, it is submerged in vats of soap and water for washing. Once washing is complete, the skin is transferred to another vat consisting of lime. It is soaked in lime. After being soaked in lime, it is transferred to a flattening machine. The skin is then flattened by rolling into the machine. Once the flattening process is done, it is transferred to another vat consisting of Tannin. Tannin is a mixture of vegetable matter and water. After it is soaked in tannin, the hide is then taken for polishing. A small rolling machine is used to roll on the hide. This provides the required shine to the hide. The leather is then transported to a different factory via large vehicles. Once the leather reaches the factory, the process of making different items comes into the picture. Products like handbags, playing balls, leather shoes, and belts are made. These are then used by the customers.
