Topic: A lot of places in the world rely on tourism as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems if it is not managed correctly. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in the modern world. Do you think that the benefits of tourism outweigh its drawbacks?

Model Answer 1

Due to the popularity of tourism, many places in the world have become tourist places that otherwise were hidden from the eyes. There are many advantages and disadvantages associated with tourism in the modern world. This essay will discuss the same and check if the pros outweigh the cons.

Tourism has brought into the public eye the lesser-known places in the world. For example, many small towns that were earlier isolated have now become popular tourist destinations and attract a large number of people. Chopta in Uttarakhand, India is an offbeat place that is eventually gaining popularity. It is covered with snow-capped mountains and thick forests. Many people now like to spend their weekends in the city. Another advantage is that people can relax and take a break from their everyday hustle. It rejuvenates them and helps them to have a good life.

On the contrary, some believe that tourism is invading the natural environment. As more people visit a place, it damages the physical resources and animal life of that place. To make the arrangements, many forests are wiped away so that accommodation facilities can be given to tourists. This results in animals losing their natural habitat. Secondly, the prices of products increase due to tourists. Inhabitants of that area cannot afford such high prices for simple products.

To conclude, the strength outweighs the weaknesses of tourism due to the expansion of a multitude of places that have now come into the limelight. However, proper steps must be taken by the government to manage the limitations of the tourism industry.

Model Answer 2

Although tourism has become one of the most important sources of income for many countries, it also has some drawbacks. This essay will look at the advantages and disadvantages of tourism and examine if the strength outweighs the weaknesses.

The major advantage that tourism has is that travellers play an important role in offering job opportunities to localities. When they buy goods, they create a demand and a demand leads to hiring thereby creating a means of livelihood for the local population.

Secondly, tourism boosts the economy of the state. Since travellers spend money, this adds to the overall economy. It also improves the infrastructure of the cities. For example, many cities in India have developed infrastructure as more foreigners have started to visit the country.

However, there are some drawbacks associated with tourism as well. The infrastructure development might lead to the eradication of natural habitats. Many animals and birds become homeless due to the cutting of forests to accommodate tourists. The crime rate of the cities might increase too as travellers become an easy target for thieves and looters.

To conclude, the benefits of tourism certainly outweigh the drawbacks. As tourism improves the economy and a good economy is directly proportional to the quality of life people get to live. The disadvantages can be managed easily by government intervention like implementing strict laws and preventing the natural environment of flora and fauna. Therefore, in my opinion, tourism must be promoted as it outweighs the limitations.

Model Answer 3

The tourism sector is one of the most booming sectors in the world. It creates a lot of job opportunities for the tertiary sector as it requires providing services. Many people however associate tourism with a source of the problem. This essay will elaborate upon the advantages and disadvantages of the tourism sector and evaluate if the pros outweigh the cons.

The opportunity that tourism brings with itself includes growth in the economy. When more travellers visit a place, their expenditure adds to the economy of the state. This money can be utilised for the residents of the city thereby improving their lifestyle. Secondly, tourism employs many people which gives them a chance to be financially independent. Many art and crafts that tourists buy are handmade thereby providing artisans with an opportunity to earn a living. Consequently, it reduces poverty. Thirdly, tourism promotes cultural exchange. When an Indian visits Scotland, he or she learns about their culture while through the interaction can even share his or her country’s rich culture. This promotes tourism in the countries and makes people aware of different cultures.

Though tourism leads to a lot of profit for the state, some disadvantages are associated with it if not managed properly. For example, engaging more tourists could mean more littering in the natural environment. Secondly, improper management can also lead to unauthorised selling and buying of artefacts thereby increasing the crime rate. Localities might even charge the tourist a lot of money as the travellers are unaware of the price ranges.

In conclusion, it can be said that even though there are limitations to tourism, the advantages outweigh them. The problems that tourism brings can be managed by strict law implementation by the government and the warm hospitality of the people.
