A Letter to Group of Friends Addressing Reason For Being Unable to Attend a Weekend Holiday IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter writing topic. Candidates are required to address their group of friends explaining the reason for not being able to attend the weekend holiday. The letter follows an informal approach. It contains three model answers that have three paragraphs namely the introduction, body, and conclusion. The letter must be clear and to the point.

IELTS General Writing Task 1 includes letter writing either in formal, informal, or semi-formal patterns. Candidates need to complete the task within 20 minutes. Dear Sarrah and Jack,

How are you both? I hope you are doing great. I might not be able to proceed with the trekking we planned. As I was not well last week, I took two holidays from college. Due to the lectures I missed, I have a lot of pending assignments to complete. The deadline is on Tuesday, the next day after our trek. So, I won't be able to join you guys in the fun trip we planned.

I apologise from the depth of my heart. And I feel terrible by letting you know at such a small notice. I was so excited to join this trip with you but now I am unable to. However, I would love you guys to proceed with the trekking trip as we planned. Have a lot of fun and I will wait for the amazing stories about the trip.

How about we plan a beach trip next weekend. I will be done with my pending assignments by then. And we will enjoy it a lot there. I have searched a few hotels near the beach and they all offer a great sunset view. Also there's amazing restaurants offering different cuisines. I am sure we all will enjoy it and have fun. I hope this will be a good alternative. All the best for your trip. And my apologies to both of you.

I hope you are doing great. I have bad news for all of us. I might not be able to make it up to the plan. As we planned about visiting the newly opened Casino in the mall. I am piled up with a lot of job deadlines. We got a new client at work and I am trying my best to stand up to the expectations of the client. I hope you both understand the work pressure and the deadlines.

I am very sorry for the last minute withdrawing from the plan. I didn't expect that I would get stumbled upon with the work. I planned to have a great day with you and to have a lot of fun. However, I would love you both to proceed with the Casino night plan. Have a lot of fun and share the amazing photos and stories with me.

How about visiting my cousin's farm next week? I will be completed by all of the deadlines by then. And as you both love my cousin's farm and the horses there. Also we will have fun horse riding. We can also have a visit to the newly opened haunted house there. It will be a great alternative.
