A Friend Who Lives In Another Country Has Invited You To Come And Stay With Him/Her IELTS General Writing Task 1 is a letter-writing topic. Candidates are required to address a friend on this topic in an informal tone. It contains three model answers that have three paragraphs namely the introduction, body, and conclusion. The letter must be clear and to the point.

IELTS General Writing Task 1 includes letter writing either in formal, informal, or semi-formal patterns. Candidates need to complete the task within 20 minutes. Students can consider their preparation for the writings section from the IELTS Writing Practice Papers and enhance their writing skills effectively. IELTS writing score is marked based on band scores. The band scores range from 0 to 9.

Topic: A friend who lives in another country has invited you to come and stay with him/her on your next holiday. You are too busy to accept the invitation.
Write a letter to your friend. In your letter,

Thank him/her for the invitation
Explain why you cannot come
Ask him about other times to visit

Dear Sunita,

I hope you are in good health. I am extremely happy to get an invitation to California for my vacation. But unfortunately, I might not be able to join you this summer vacation. I am thankful to you for this amazing invitation. But I certainly have the best vacation of mine with you. I had a serious accident last week and the doctor recommended that I take bed rest for a month. I got a serious knee injury that needs surgery. I am planning to undergo the surgery during this summer break so that I get some time to recover. I am quite keen to visit you. I won’t be able to come due to the current scenario. We can plan some other time. Maybe this winter vacation I can visit California. You can also recommend some good and appropriate places to visit. I’m sorry that I could not accept your invitation. But I will make sure to visit you during the winter vacation.

I am extremely delighted to get an invitation from you. It is a generous offer to stay in Canada during my holidays. I really want to visit and spend time with you, but unfortunately, I have a hectic schedule for this summer vacation. I have just taken on a part-time job for this vacation. Basically, I wanted to gain some experience before my university admission. You know this is going to enhance my chances for admission. I have been enjoying it immensely and the company and working there is very renowned. The owner of the company is Mr. Brown. I hope you remember him. My father is one of my closest friends. I would try to visit you some other time. The best time would be for the winter vacation. Or we can also travel to you during the Christmas break. Please feel free to write to me about the plans that we can make for winter. I can’t wait to hear from you.

I am not complaining but the time schedule is quite tight. I would really like to visit you but can you plan some other time? For instance we can plan this vacation for the summers. So that I can be free at that time and can easily plan some time together. I would certainly love to Escape to London for my summer vacation. I can’t wait to hear from you.
